Alicia stared at Wilma in disbelief.
Wilma clearly had deep connections within the Lynch family—there was no other way she could know so many details. She'd already proven her inside knowledge, sharing all sorts of gossip about the Whites and the Lynches, which only confirmed Alicia's suspicion: Wilma must really be the Lynches' most trusted housekeeper.
That meant Wilma's words carried weight. "But why?" Alicia pressed, struggling to comprehend. The old man only had one grandson—why would he push things this far?
Wilma let out a weary sigh. "Word is… the patriarch insists Mr. Lynch divorce you and marry Nicole instead." Her voice softened with sympathy. "The Whites and the Lynches have had an arranged marriage planned for years, and the old man would never let that go."
Alicia's eyes widened. So Tyrone's refusal to marry Nicole was what had angered the old man?
"But didn't Tyrone refuse the Whites' arrangement years ago, when Serena left the family?" Alicia wondered aloud. "Why is he so furious this time?"
Wilma gave a gentle, almost motherly look. "Because Nicole's been found, and back then, the Whites tried to push Tyrone into marrying Jade instead. But I know the old man—he'll never truly let go of that alliance."
In Wilma's mind, Tyrone would eventually cave in to the family's wishes.
Alicia nodded quietly, her thoughts spinning.
Wilma squeezed her hand, her expression torn. "Alicia, I'm very fond of you." She hesitated. "But I work for the Lynch family." Wilma's gaze grew apologetic. "The patriarch already called me. He wants me to persuade you to leave on your own. Whatever terms you ask for, he'll do his best to meet them… He asked me to tell you—don't make things harder for Mr. Lynch."
If Alicia took the initiative, maybe Tyrone wouldn't be caught in the crossfire.
"I understand," Alicia whispered, her voice tinged with disappointment.
Wilma's shoulders sagged. "I know this hurts, and it hurts me too. But if you don't divorce, the old man might really cut Tyrone off. Years ago, over some family dispute, he sent Tyrone back to their hometown in Grandcrest."
She sighed again, lost in memory. "The old man dotes on his grandson, but he was a soldier—strict and uncompromising. He'd never truly indulge him."
