Alicia stared at Tyrone in disbelief.
All this time, she’d thought his parents had died in an accident.
She’d heard about Nicole’s parents—that they’d been murdered by a hired killer in Seaview City. It had caused a huge stir back then; the culprit was never caught, and it was still a favorite topic of idle gossip, especially since Nicole’s family was one of Harboridge City’s most prominent. Rich people meeting a violent end tended to keep tongues wagging.
But Tyrone’s parents… Had they been murdered, too?
Alicia didn’t dare ask. She just squeezed Tyrone’s hand, her nerves taut.
Whatever he’d been through—whatever he was facing now—it was probably far darker than she’d ever imagined.
And right now, she could barely keep herself afloat. The last thing Tyrone needed was more trouble from her. Maybe, by staying out of his way, she was helping as much as she could.
She wished she could do more. But asking questions would only make things worse.

Seaview General Hospital.
As soon as Tyrone left, Serena sat up straight, scowling at Melanie. “What was that about, huh? Pushing Tyrone towards that woman—are you out of your mind? How many times have I told you, the only way you get to be the Lynch family’s heiress is if I marry into the family! Have you forgotten the way people used to laugh at you back in school?”
Melanie’s face was pale. Serena had been like this all her life—always berating her, always manipulating her emotions.
“Did it ever occur to you to ask what I want?” Melanie’s eyes filled with tears as she looked at her mother.
“Does what you want even matter?” Serena snapped, her voice rising. “If I don’t marry into the Lynch family, if we lose Tyrone’s support, I’m done for. Let me make this clear: I’m your mother. My survival means you have a place in this world. If you don’t want to be an outcast forever, mocked by everyone, you’d better help me.”
Melanie dropped her gaze, silent.
