“It’s Alicia. I can’t believe it’s actually Alicia.” Yvonne still hadn’t calmed down, her heart racing.
“You could try finding a chance to meet her, take things slowly and carefully,” Sean suggested.
Yvonne nodded, her eyes bright. “You’re right. Help me check Alicia’s schedule over the next few days. Even if I can’t reveal myself, at least let me see her and make sure she’s safe…”
Sean smiled and nodded. “I’ll have someone look into it right away.”
Overcome with emotion, Yvonne threw herself into Sean’s arms, hugging him tightly.
Sean just shook his head, half exasperated. It was only during moments like this that Yvonne ever looked at him with such warmth.
“Didn’t you once say that if the test proved she was your niece, you’d marry me? Does that still count?” Sean teased, grinning.
Yvonne shot him a mock suspicious look. “You’re sure you didn’t mess with the results?”
Sean’s expression darkened. “Get off me. Stop clinging.”
Yvonne just clung tighter, shameless as ever. “Honey, I was wrong, okay?”
Sean stiffened, knowing full well he was utterly helpless against her. Yvonne always had a way to keep him wrapped around her finger.
He hoisted her up and tossed her onto the bed, kissing her hungrily, almost desperate.
He didn’t stop until she was breathless, then growled, “You know I’m not after some pet name. I want a real commitment.”
Yvonne, as thick-skinned as ever, had called him “husband” plenty of times when asking for favors, but never agreed to anything more official.
“Just give it a little more time. When the truth is out and I can bring her home openly, I’ll marry you then. Deal?” Yvonne tugged at Sean’s collar, her voice teasing.
Sean’s gaze darkened. “You’ve been using that excuse to string me along for over a decade…”
