Rich Radiant and Over Him (Alicia and Vincent) novel Chapter 298

Easton led Valery into the doctor’s office, handing over the test results.

The doctor paused, examined the papers closely, then looked up at Easton. “I’m afraid your mother’s condition is quite serious… Judging by these results, it’s likely end-stage kidney failure. I’m afraid…”

Easton glanced over at Valery.

Valery stared at the doctor in shock, then broke down, sobbing into Marcus’s arms.

Through her tears, Valery choked out a question. “Is there any hope for me, doctor?”

The doctor nodded. “A kidney transplant could give you a few more years, but…the cost of surgery is staggering.”

Valery took a shaky breath and continued crying in Marcus’s embrace.

Easton took the test report from the doctor and skimmed it again, then looked at Valery. “Let’s get a second opinion at a different hospital.”

At this, Valery’s sobs grew louder. “I feel so awful right now. I need to be admitted. I can’t just leave.”

Marcus jumped in. “We can’t wait any longer. This is the best hospital in Seaview City—where else are we supposed to go?”

The doctor quickly added, “He’s right, our hospital is the most reputable in the city.”

Easton nodded and tried to comfort Valery. “Dad, why don’t you take Mom outside for a bit? I’ll stay and talk with the doctor about treatment options and costs.”

Valery nodded, still weeping, and left with Marcus.

In the hallway, Valery whispered, “Do you think he bought it? He didn’t really react.”

“The doctor will back us up,” Marcus replied quietly. He was convinced their performance was flawless—but how could two fools ever fool a sharp kid?

Back in the exam room, Easton fixed his eyes on the doctor. “Doctor, does late-stage kidney failure cause coughing?”
