KENNEDY
He kissed me. Thayer kissed me.
The word fuck escaped his mouth shocked me. He’d been trying hard to control whatever this lust and attraction we both felt. Then he finally gave in.
Last night, I didn’t sleep a blink—that was why I drowned myself in caffeine.
I’d kissed a lot of men, but damn, his kiss made me squirm and me wet. That kiss wasn’t gentle, and that was exactly what I wanted to overwhelm myself. And god, if his scent didn’t turn me on—the smell of rich and masculine that I could sniff him all day. Even his breathing fanning me right now made my toe curl. He was driving me insane, driving me mad with lust and unsatisfied hunger.
And I definitely looked forward to his promise.
I stepped out of the car with weak knees, his large hand on the small of my back. Despite the red minidress I was wearing, a tingle of heat radiated the spot where he touched me.
I knew this was a rush. Everything happened so fast. I was just brokenhearted three days ago. Right now, I just kissed a man—a hot piece of man. Did I have regrets? Fuck no. I barely remembered my ex if he didn’t call me that I had to take my things because he’d be leaving the apartment soon. Who the hell would do that, rushing his ex?
As we entered the elevator, the two big, bad wolves followed. They were always in full eyes sharp as hawks.
“Nice,” Lud commented.
“Shut up,” Ash stated.
I bit my bottom lip.
Did he see us kissing? Of course, he did.
Heat rose in my cheeks.
Thayer might have noticed the rigidness of my spine. He ran his fingertips through the skin of my wrist.
My toes curl.
My lips dried.
He then slipped his fingers into my hand, interlacing with mine. My inside tightened. Just at the thought of his words earlier made my pulse pick up farther.
I bit my lip stronger.
“Are you okay?” He glanced down at me.
I realized my face was burning. “Yeah.”
He matched my stare, dropping his gaze down my lips before a small smile curved up his lips.
“Is your asshole ex home?” Ash asked, breaking me from my filthy thoughts.
“I didn’t see his car down.”
“Break the damn door if you must.”
My eyes grew big as I snapped my head back at Thayer. “That won’t be necessary. I still have my key. Um, my things might not fit in the car, though.”
“No worries, love. I got it handled,” Lud replied.
“What do you mean?”
“That’s exactly what I mean.”
“You’re talking in cryptic.”
“He’s handling the movers,” Ash replied.
I picked up my keys from my purse as we reached the apartment door. Before I could slip the key, I heard a laugh from inside the apartment. It was from my ex, and there was another voice—a voice of a woman.
My chest constricted.
My anger boiled in my blood.
My breathing quickened.
“Fucking motherfucker!” I was startled by the growl coming from Lud.
While my face burned with anger, my hands turned cold. What I wasn’t expecting was Thayer squeezing my hand and planting it on his lips. His gesture was sweet and comforting like he was telling me that everything was going to be okay.
I hoped he was right, though. Deep in my heart, I wasn’t angry that he already had a woman replacing me. What hurt me most was I let him fool me. I allowed him to cheat on me. I knew that now—the reason why he made excuses every time I initiated sex.
Damn him.
Lud took the key from my shaking hand. “Let me do it, love.”
The door swung opened. The shock was an understatement. Colors drained from Raoul’s face. His dark eyes widened in shock, and so as the woman sitting on the kitchen island—his officemate. Lydia.
“Looks like you’ve seen a ghost, mate?” It was Lud who entered first.
