After recovering from the shock a few moments later, Victor went ballistic. He grabbed Gideon and Leonard by their collars and lashed out, "How dare you trick me?"
With his face as pale as ashes, Gideon shuddered and pleaded, "Mr. Black, I would never in a million years dare to trick you or the Blacks. I have tried many times to annul the marriage between Nathan Cross and Penny Smith in the system, but to no avail."
Leonard, who was also close to tears, started panicking and gasped, "Yes, I tried every possible means to remove Nathan Cross from the household registration system, but I couldn't. This is the first time I've encountered such an issue!"
What? Victor Black stared at Nathan!
If these two men were not lying, it could only mean that Nathan was behind all this.
He glared at Nathan and hissed, "What have you done, you brat?"
Penny and the Smiths looked at Nathan with sheer curiosity.
They wanted to know how he could prevent the Civil Affairs Bureau and Household Registration Office from tampering with his records.
Nathan smiled back at Victor. "Trust me, you wouldn't want to know!"
Agitated, Victor Black snapped, "Hah! How arrogant. There's nothing I wouldn't want to know. Quit trying to intimidate me!"
Almost immediately, they heard footsteps coming from the outside, marching toward the room. A stern voice pierced through the air. "Move aside, everyone!"
Upon hearing the commotion outside, Nathan smiled at an alarmed Victor and uttered, "Here comes your answer!"
A major in his military uniform barged into the room with a dozen armed soldiers behind him.
The major saluted Nathan. "I'm Major
Clarke from the South's military force. I've just been informed that someone has attempted to interfere with a military marriage. I'm here to take care of this matter."
Interfering with a military marriage?
Everyone was taken aback when they heard this. It suddenly struck them that Nathan was an ex-serviceman!
He grinned and quipped, "Much appreciated, Major Clarke!"
Major Clarke nodded. Then, he pointed at Gideon and Leonard and ordered his men to arrest them.
Several heavily armed military men acted on his command immediately.
Gideon yelled, "How dare you touch me? I'm the Director of the Civil Affairs Bureau!"
Following that, Leonard screamed as well, "Yes, I'm from the Household Registration Office, you can't arrest me!"
Major Clarke snorted, "You tried to disrupt a military marriage. Of all people, both of you should know very well that it is illegal to do so. So tell me, why can't we arrest you? As a military officer, I have every right to arrest you for attempting to disrupt a military marriage. Get them out of here now!"
