Chapter 16 

Today, Mona was discharged from the hospital. Mick personally came to pick her up. Standing at the entrance, Ted held a bouquet of roses, handing them to her with a bright sille. 

“Ms. Poole, congratulations on getting discharged.” 

Mona had suffered a fracture, but after setting the bone, there were no major complications. She was discharged with instructions to rest and would return later to have the cast removed. 

Accepting the bouquet of roses with one hand, she flashed a radiant smile. “Thank you both for coming to pick me up.” 

She walked over to Mick and gently looped her arm through his. “Have you been waiting long? 

The hospital entrance was bustling with people. Mick slid his arm away without expression.” Not long.” 

three of them got into the car, with Mick driving. Mona seemed to be in an excellent mood and kept talking throughout the ride. 

When she noticed Mick’s lack of interest, she shifted her attention to chatting with Ted. As they chatted, the car got stuck in traffic just as they passed the amusement park. 

“We’re already here. Why don’t we stop and have some fun?” Mona suggested cheerfully. 

Ted clapped his hands in excitement. It had been almost a month since his last visit to an amusement park. In the past, Nydia had always followed a strict schedule, taking him to the amusement park only once a month. 

She also adhered closely to the doctor’s advice, only allowing him to go on the gentler rides. He had grown tired of those rules. 

“Ms. Poole, can I ride the roller coaster?” 

Mona snapped her fingers with a playful grin. “I’m a fairy godmother today, your wish is granted.” 

Ted was overjoyed. “Dad, let’s go!” 

Mick gave a distracted grunt of agreement. He was annoyed. If Nydia were here, she would put Ted’s health first and veto this idea. 

By the time Mick parked the car, he realized his mind had wandered to Nydia without reason. He shook his head. “Ridiculous.” 

Inside the amusement park, Norman was experiencing the joy of being a kid. He had gone on 

every ride he could. 

Meanwhile, Nydia was close to collapsing from sheer terror. By the time they got off the pirate ship ride, her legs had turned to jelly. 

The sky had already turned dark. As the ride ascended to its highest point, Nydia felt like she was melting into the blackness above. Cold sweat trickled down her back. 

She had always stayed far away from adrenaline–pumping rides like this. Not only because she wasn’t fond of them, but because Ted wasn’t either. 

From birth, Ted had been physically fragile, with a heart condition that made doctors strictly forbid such activities. But back then, she had still been fresh out of the countryside where she grew up and had secretly wanted to experience these thrill rides. 

Yet, for Ted, she had ignored those desires and convinced herself they didn’t exist. Over time, the most intense ride she had dared to go on was a carousel. 

“Ms. Vega, are you scared?” Norman asked, practically bouncing with excitement as he pointed to the drop tower ride ahead. 

“Of course not,” she replied haughtily, though the pallor of her face betrayed her nerves. 

Nelson chuckled. “Norman and I are thinking about trying that one over there, but there’s a long line. Can you 

erab us some drinks while we wait?” 

The request was a lifeline, and she eagerly grabbed it. “Of course! I’ll go right now.” 

Norman squinted at her skeptically. “Why does it feel like you don’t want to play, Ms. Vega?” 

Nydia gave a rapid string of denials. “That’s nonsense. I’m not scared. I just enjoy taking care 

of you two.” 

Nelson smirked knowingly but didn’t argue. “Alright, we’ll head to the line.” 

He picked up Norman and headed off. 

As they disappeared, Nydia exhaled deeply, relieved to have finally made her escape. With some time to kill before the ride started, she wandered off, treating it as an impromptu stroll. 

Suddenly, the night sky burst into life with fireworks. 

“Wow, look at that!” 

“Blue fireworks!” 

Nydia glanced upward instinctively. 

The dazzling display of fireworks painted the dark canvas above, their golden light scattering like falling stars. 

“Wow, that gold one? They say each one costs 100 thousand dollars.” 

There’s another ones” 

“Bet It’s some guy trying to Impress his girlfriend! This is insane!” 

Nydia tilted her head back to admire the show, but her neck began to ache after a while. 

Gorgeous as it was, even fireworks had their limit. Turning a corner, she headed for the nearby restroom. 

On her way out, she unexpectedly ran into someone familiar–Mona, her arm still in a cast. 

The surprise was mutual. Mona froze, then let out a sharp laugh. “Well, well. Couldn’t let Mick, could you? So, you followed him all the way here.”

The remark caught Nydia off guard. Blinking, she followed Mona’s gaze to the distance. 

Sure enough, Nydia spotted Mick talking to Ted. Behind them, the dazzling fireworks lit up the sky, casting a golden glow over them. 

She immediately averted her gaze and responded sharply, “If you like being someone’s lapdog, don’t assume everyone else is the same.” 

Mona’s face darkened when she was called a dog. “I think you’re just bitter because you can’t have what I have,” she retorted. 

After a pause, Mona’s eyes narrowed as a thought struck her. “I get it. You’re regretting your divorce, aren’t you? Now that you don’t have the villa or the money, it’s too much to handle, isn’t it?” 

Nydia was surprised. “So, you were after the money and the villa? That’s a relief, for a second, I thought you were after him.” 

Mona sneered. “Don’t slander me. I don’t care about those material things. What I care about. is Mick himself.” 

Nydia immediately switched to a sympathetic expression. “Well, in that case… I wish you the best of luck.”
