Silas looked up. For a fleeting moment, he thought it was really Amelia.
“Amy! You’re back! I’ve been looking everywhere for you…” He pulled the
woman into a tight embrace, tears spilling onto her shoulder, making her tremble.
Then reality crashed down. Her scent was wrong.
This wasn’t Amy.
He shoved her away, pinning her against the table, his hand tightening
around her throat until her face turned red, her eyes rolled back in her head.
She struggled, gasping for air.
“Silas! Stop it! You’re going to kill her!” His friends pulled him back,
breaking his hold.
He stumbled back, his eyes clearing, his gaze sweeping over their faces,
registering their presence.“I just warned you. And you still… We’re done. We’re
not friends anymore. We’re enemies. If it weren’t for you…” He didn’t finish the
sentence, but the implication hung heavy in the air. If it weren’t for you, I
wouldn’t have betrayed Amy.
His words hit them like a ton of bricks. The Sterling family held immense
power in Boston. Crossing Silas Sterling was a death sentence to their social
standing and their businesses.
