Even though I was awake, my body protested in agony at the lack of rest. My eyes were dry and my head felt fuzzy. I tried to get up several times but failed miserably. Resigned, I lay on the bed.
I knew how detrimental sleep deprivation could be.
As I lay down, I recalled what happened yesterday. While I had come to terms with it, I still couldn't help but feel upset.
Shortly after, I sensed movements next to me. Colin got up, his hair as messy as a bird's nest. He looked at me as I continued staring at the ceiling. We stayed in the same position in silence. I folded my arms. There was no way I would be the first one to break the ice.
Colin gazed at me nonchalantly, mockery filling his eyes. We continued for a good five minutes. Seeing that I refused to budge, Colin gave in and pecked the corner of my lips. Then, he ruffled my hair. "I'll make breakfast. Will pancakes do?"
His voice was unctuous. Clearly, he was trying to coddle me. I wanted to ignore him, but my eyes teared up uncontrollably. I hated to be this weak, but I couldn't help it.
"Alright, I'm sorry, okay? I promise you that it won't happen again. Also, I hired a female caregiver for her. I'll tell you everything before I do anything, alright? Just trust me. I'll never ever betray you. Will you stop being mad already?"
Colin put me in his arms and comforted me. The more he apologized, the more aggrieved I felt. I was the victim here, yet he ignored me last night. I couldn't even sleep while he slept like the dead. That was so unfair.
"Why is it that the more I console you, the harder you cry? Is there a stop button to your endless tears?" he cooed tenderly as he wiped my tears with his knuckles.
