The Secret Pregnancy of the Billionaire’s ExWife

Chapter 219: The Unexpected Call

Angela Pov

Midnight had settled over New York as I sat on the edge of my bed, phone in hand.

My finger hovered over Sean’s contact information. Sighing, I clicked the red button, canceling the call before it could connect.

I reasoned with myself that Sean was probably busy searching for David or handling some aspect of the Christopher situation. Better to wait until he had time to properly talk.

In the bathroom, steam swirled around me as I showered, but even here, my eyes kept drifting to my phone resting on the counter.

For nearly an hour after, I sat wrapped in a towel, checking for notifications every few minutes.

This is ridiculous,I muttered, vigorously toweldrying my hair while still glancing at the silent device.

Even after sliding beneath the cool sheets, my mind refused to quiet

Why was I so worried? Sean was more than capable of handling himself. He had resources, security teams, and years of experience navigating difficult situations.

Yet something felt wronga persistent unease I couldn’t shake.

After another restless hour, I gave up and called Thomas Smith.

Mrs. Wilson? His voice was thick with sleep. Do you need something?

I’m sorry for calling so late,I said, guilt washing over me. Did I wake you?

It’s fine,he assured me, clearing his throat. As Mr. Shaw’s assistant, I’m available whenever you need me.

Have youheard anything from Sean?I tried to keep my voice casual.

Thomas paused before answering. I spoke with Mr. Shaw’s security team in Europe this morning. They reported everything was proceeding according to plan.

My heart sank. So you haven’t actually spoken to Sean directly?

No, Mrs. Wilson. From what I understand, Mr. Shaw is fully focused on locating Mr. Chen. He’s been quitepreoccupied with this

matter.

I bit my lip, unsatisfied with his explanation but unwilling to push further. I understand.

Mrs. Wilson,Thomas’s voice softened, please try to rest. I promise I’ll contact you immediately if I receive any news.

After hanging up, I clutched my phone against my chest, eventually drifting into an uneasy sleep.

The alarm jolted me awake the next morning. My heart raced as I checked my phonestill no messages from Sean.

The unshakable feeling that something was wrong in Europe only intensified with each passing hour.

Chapter 210. The Unexpected Call

Downstairs, Victoria Shaw was watching Aria and Ethan as they played with the new toys she’d bought them, Keeing the clutares there I swallowed my worries, unwilling to speak freely in front of them.

Victesta’s perceptive eyes caught my expression. Why don’t we step onto the terrace for a moment? the suggested, smoothly rising from her chair.

Outside, with the Manhattan skyline stretching before us, I turned to her. Have you heard from Sean recently?

She shook her head. Not since we arrived in New York. Why do you ask?

I’m worried. He hasn’t contacted me in two days.*

Victoria patted my hand gently. Angela, you know how business trip can be. The time difference alone makes communication difficult. I’m sure he’s just busy.

What exactly did Sean tell you about his work in Europe?she asked, studying my face,

I tensed, unwilling to reveal the truth about Christopher’s kidnapping and David’s disappearance. Just some company matters that needed his personal attention,I answered vaguely.

Victoria nodded, seemingly satisfied with my explanation. Don’t worry too much. Sean has always been capable of handling difficult situations. Once he completes his business, he’ll contact you Though I must say,she added with a small smile, I’ll remind him that he should pay more attention to his family. Good wives like you are rare.

I should get to the office,I said, checking my watch.

Of course. I’ll take care of the children. Just make sure you take your security detail with you.

###

At my investment firm, everything looked surprisingly normal despite my weeklong absence. Sean had apparently informed my staff that I was on a business trip to Europe, and no one questioned my return.

I sat at my desk, the glass walls of my office allowing me to see the security guard Sean had assigned standing vigilantly outside. The elegant décor that usually brought me comfort now felt stifling.

My phone remained within reach as I halfheartedly reviewed documents. The words blurred before my eyes, my mind constantly drifting back to Sean.
