Chapter 245: Sweeter Than Any Dessert
Angela Poy
“Angela, Sean? You’re here? Why didn’t you call ahead?”
Victoria emerged from around the corner of the house, surprise and delight mingling in her elegant features
I straightened carefully, the children still wrapped around me.
“Victoria,” I greeted, trying to mask my
y nervousness,
Her shrewd eyes swept over me, and I felt suddenly exposed. Would she notice something different about me?
Would she realize I didn’t remember her–or these children?

Victoria’s giže sharpened with concern. “My goodness, Angela, you’ve lost so much weight!
I’ve bogn… adjusting my diet,” I explained weakly, leaning into Seans support.
“Well, you’ve clearly taken it too far, Victoria replied, her voice softening. “Come inside. I’ll have something prepared for you immediately.”
The boy–my son–watched me with intelligent eyes that seemed to see more than I wanted to reveal. I offered him a smile, hoping it appeared natural rather than the anxious gesture it was,
As we moved toward the house, Victoria pulled Sean aside. I seized the opportunity to escape scrutiny, murmuring, “Il take the children inside.”
Though I walked ahead with the children, I could still hear snippets of their conversation.
“How is she really?”
really?” Victoria asked, her voice low
“Mother, everything has been handled,” Sean replied firmly. “You dont need to concern yourself with the details,”
“And your father? Is Alexander still in New York dealing with the situation?”
Yes. He’ll call when it’s resolved.”
I felt Victoria’s gaze follow me, and wondered how much she suspected about my condition.

Sean and Victoria joined us, carrying trays of refreshments, Victoriaet down elegant plates of petit fours and delicate pastries while Sean poured tea.
“I think we should take some photos, Victoria suggested, retrieving camera from a nearby table. “It’s been too long since we se had proper family pictures.”
My heart raged with anxiety. Would I look unnatural in these photos Would my discomfort be obvious?
Sean stood beside me, his arm slipping naturally around my waist. Victoria directed us with the confidence of someone accustomed to organizing family portraits.
Sean, stand closer! Angela, hold Aria on your lap. Ethan, right there beside your father.”
I tried to mimic the posture of a woman comfortable with her family, with these people she’d known for years. Sean’s hand pressed reassuringly against my side as if sensing my tension.
Victoria took several photos, then examined them with satisfaction.
*Beautiful! These perfectly capture your family’s happiness,”
“Send them to me,” Sean requested. “I want to set one as my phone background.”
1 glanced at Sean, surprised by how much these simple family photos seemed to mean to him. The tenderness in his expression as he looked at the images made something flutter in my chest.
