David stood in the doorway, his posture respectful but his gaze unwavering. “The elder Mr. Blake instructed me to remain by your side twenty–four hours a day. After they were escorted in, I naturally followed.”

His sanctimonious words irritated me deeply. I yanked the curtain closed, plunging the room into semidarkness, with only a desk
lamp casting a weak glo?
“Why is Mr. Blake afraid to see Ms. Wilson?” David’s voice was calm, but felt like a knife piercing my heart.
“Don’t presume,” I scoffed. “Afraid? Since she’s chosen to return to that man,

My shoulders stiffened, fingers unconsciously clenching into fists. How dare he?
“Because you hurt her, and now you can’t face her, can’t apologize in person.” David continued, each word like a needle piercing my skin. “I’ve followed you for years, sir, I understand what’s in your heart better than you think. Denial won’t help,”

His stubbornness exhausted my patience, I strode out of the study, slamming the door behind me, wanting to escape those eyes that seemed to see through to my soul.
On my way upstairs, I ducked into a small room at the end of the hallway where the mansion’s surveillance system was installed. I grabbed a chair and hurled it against the wall with a thunderous crash. On screen, Angela flinched at the sound and pressed herself closer to Sean.
David quickly appeared in the frame, reassuring Angela that her beautiful face, the apprehension fading away.

I clenched my fist then released it, fingernails leaving deep marks in my palm. Perhaps this was better letting her leave with hatred for me. At least she would remember me. That was preferable to disappearing from her memory entirely.
I couldn’1–dared not–see her. Because once face to face, I didn’t kupe what I might do. Apologize? Beg forgiveness fir commit another unforgivable act to keep het by my side?
“Let’s go,” Angela said to Sean on screen, her voice as calm as still wilter.
“Alright.” Sean held her hand tightly, leading her toward the car waiting outside.
Her steps were firm, without hesitation or looking back. She had made her choice. Even with questions and confusion lingering in her heart, she knew it was time to move forward.
While I remained trapped in the past, unable to advance.
David returned to my side as I stood before the monitor, my shoulders slightly slumped, enveloped in an invisible weariness.
“Mr. Blake, Ms. Wilson has left,” David said.
I didn’t respond, only watching the car growing distant on the screen
