The Secret Pregnancy of the Billionaire’s Ex–Wife
Chapter 299: I’m Sorry, Angela, I Messed Up Again
Christopher POV
She looked more beautiful in her wedding dress than I had imagined. The white lace hugged her figure perfectly, catching the light as she moved down the aisle.
I stood in the shadows at the back of the venue, just another face in the crowd of New York’s elite. No one noticed me. All eyes were on Angela, as they should be.
Sean waited at the altar, his face a picture of restrained joy. When Angela reached him, he took her hands in his, and I could see his fingers trembling slightly. For all his faults, there was no denying what I saw in his eyes. He loved her.
I turned toward the exit, my footsteps soundless on the thick carpet. That’s when I heard the first shout, followed by a commotion near the entrance to the reception hall.
A woman burst through the doors, her face partially covered by a mask that couldn’t hide the rage in her eyes. Security moved toward her immediately, but she was surprisingly quick, dodging their attempts to restrain her.
“Angela Wilson!” she screamed, her voice echoing through the suddenly silent hall.
I recognized her instantly–Jennifer. The woman who had kidnapped Angela five years ago, nearly causing her to lose the twins. The woman whose face now bore scars from a prison “lesson” I had arranged. I didn’t regret it. Not when I remembered how Angela had looked in that hospital bed, pale and terrified, her hands protectively cradling her barely–showing pregnancy.
But now, seeing Jennifer’s scarred face and the hatred burning in her eyes, I understood the consequences of my actions had come full circle.
Sean’s security team surrounded her quickly. They began escorting her out, and for a moment, I thought the crisis had been averted. The wedding guests murmured among themselves, some reaching for their phones, undoubtedly eager to share the drama on social media.
Then everything happened at once.
Jennifer somehow broke free, pulling a knife from under her baggy clothing. She lunged forward, heading straight for Angela, who stood frozen in shock, still in Sean’s arms.
I didn’t think. I just moved.
Five years of longing, five years of regret, five years of watching from a distance–all of it crystallized into a single moment of clarity. If I could do one thing right in my miserable life, it would be this.
I reached her just before the knife did. The blade sank into my chest with surprising ease, a sharp burning sensation followed by spreading warmth. Jennifer’s eyes widened in surprise when she realized she had stabbed the wrong person. Security tackled her seconds later, but the damage was done.
I stumbled backward, pressing my hand against the wound. Blood seeped between my fingers, staining my shirt crimson. I didn’t want Angela to see me like this–didn’t want her wedding to end with my blood on her dress. I turned toward the exit, determined to leave with whatever dignity I could manage.
“Christopher!”
Her voice stopped me. I turned slightly, offering what I hoped was a reassuring smile.
You look beautiful today,” I managed to say, the words coming out weaker than I intended.

Then my legs gave out, and Tollapsed to the floor.
She was beside me instantly, cradling my head in her lap, her wedding dress pooling around us both. Her eyes were wide with
concern-
-a look I’d never seen directed at me before. Despite everything, despite all my mistakes, she still cared. It was more than I
deserved.
“The ambulance is coming,” she said, her voice steady despite the tears gathering in her eyes. “Just hold on.”
Sean knelt beside her, his expression a strange mix of anger and concern. “Why did you have to play the hero?” he demanded, but there was no real bite to his words.
I tried to laugh, but it came out as a wet cough instead. “Old habits.”
Sean examined my wound, his face serious. “The knife hit the right sile of your chest, away from your heart. You’ll be okay once the
ambulance arrives.”
I didn’t correct him. Didn’t tell him about my dextrocardia–the rare condition that placed my heart more toward the right side of my chest than normal. What would be the point? Some things are better left unsaid.
