She Outshines Them All (Athena and Matthew) novel Chapter 259

Chapter 259
Zayn had just returned home at 10 p.m. when he received a call from an unknown number.
He picked up the call politely. “Hello, who is this?”
A gentle and capable woman’s voice sounded softly. “Zayn, this is Elsie.
Zayn frowned slightly. Before he could speak, Elsie said quickly and clearly, “I know you remember me but don’t want to see me. I don’t have the face to see you, either. I called you only to tell you the truth back then.”
Zayn said calmly, “Go ahead.”
Elsie told a sad story in a slightly sad tone. “My father was a violent man. Every time he was drunk, he would beat my mother. Every time my mother wanted a divorce, my father would say he would beat her to death if she dared to get a divorce.
“My mother asked her parents for help. Instead of helping her, my mother’s father, brother, and younger brother even called her useless.
“My mother was deceived and abandoned by her first love in school. After graduation, her family lied about my father being kind and honest and said she wouldn’t lose out if she married him, so my mother believed it.
“Because of these things, my mother hated men to the core. She even taught me not to believe in men or love.
“It wasn’t until I was in junior high school that my father fell down the stairs after drinking too much, causing his legs to be crippled. Only then was my mother able to get a divorce. She brought me to rent a small apartment and worked hard to raise me alone.”
At this point, Elsie paused slightly and tried to calm her emotions. And Zayn continued to listen calmly without saying a word.
Elsie even suspected that Zayn was not listening. However, those words had been buried in her heart for a long time. She had to say them out loud.
She continued, “During the summer vacation before my second year in high school, I got badgered by Ben. My grades plummeted, and my mother was furious.
“Shortly after school started, my mother found my journal under my pillow. It was full of admiration and yearning for a boy,
Z. Don
“He was handsome, but he didn’t know it. He was good but not arrogant.
“He didn’t like to talk, but he was the most active, focused, and responsible student.
“During the PE class, if a classmate got injured or felt unwell, he would tell the teacher and take the classmate to the medical
center
“There was trash on the floor of the classroom. He always quietly cleaned or picked it up and threw it into the dustbin downstairs.
He used to help the teacher clean the blackboard, bring water, and get homework.
“No matter how much I wrote in my diary, I couldn’t write everything good about him.”
Elsie smiled as she spoke, crying at the same time. “My mother thought that I was dating Z. Don and that it was Z. Don’s fault that my grades were falling.

“She burned the diary to my face and interrogated me about who Z. Don was. I didn’t tell her. After that, my mother confirmed that you were 2. Don in my diary and hated you.
“Later, Ben’s family sent someone to contact my mother and said that as long as I changed my mind, the four families would compensate us with a huge sum of money…
Elsie told everything about how the four families had bribed her mother.
Then, she sobbed softly. “My mother said she would kill herself if I disagreed.
“She wasn’t trying to scare me. She’d cut her wrists, climbed over the roof, and tried to gas herself when my father beat her. I was terrified she’d die. I couldn’t bear the pressure and compromised…”
At this point, she was sobbing uncontrollably. But Zayn still did not react.
Elsie did not cry for long. She quickly regained her composure. That’s the entire truth.
“A mistake is a mistake. No matter what I say, it’s still my fault. I won’t ask for your forgiveness,
“If my mother comes after you again, you can go public with everything I said. It’ll clear your name.” When Zayn heard that, he said calmly, “I didn’t record it. What you said won’t be used as evidence. “But my lawyer is gathering evidence and looking for witnesses. All I want is a fair and impartial trial.”
Elsie was stunned again.
After a while, she smiled and said with tears, “Zayn, you’re the most upright and reliable man I’ve ever met. If possible, I want to give you the diary I wrote in high school and let you see how much I admired you back then.”
Zayn remained calm. “That’s all. Bye.” He hung up.
In the darkness, Elsie, barefoot, curled up in the corner of the living room. She hugged her knees with one hand and held her phone with the other, letting her tears drip onto the floor.
Click. The door opened.
Kerise walked in with a bulging food bag and pressed the light switch. Then, she said in surprise, “Elsie?
“Why didn’t you turn on the lights at home? Also, why are you sitting on the floor with your hair disheveled? Get up now. Ive brought your favorite cake and roast fish.”
Elsie slowly opened her eyes and looked straight at Kerise through her brown hair. She said hoarsely, “I saw the video on my phone. Why did you go to Zayn?
“He didn’t do anything wrong. It’s been so many years. Why can’t you let him off?”
Kerise’s smile instantly turned cold. “Are you accusing me of being a bad person?
“I raised you alone painstakingly and devoted all my efforts to you. Now that you’ve become a famous announcer and host, you’re accusing me of being a bad person, huh?”
“That’s not what I meant!” Elsie shook her head with tears in her eyes. “I’m just saying that we’ve gotten so many benefits. from Zayn and are living well. Can we leave him alone now?
He doesn’t owe us anything…
“Of course he owes us” Kerise roared. She raised the food in her hand and smashed it on Elsie. “It’s been so many years, but you still can’t forget him. You still want to talk about what happened back then! Do you know saying those things will ruin

“I can’t hate you or hit you. Of course, I can only hate him. I’ll do everything to chase him out of your life!”

“I’ve got over him.” Elsie did not react to what was thrown at her. She cried and said, “I’ve promised you I would never have anything to do with him again. Why can’t you let him off?”
“Because you lied to me!” Kerise rushed over, grabbed Elsie’s phone, and smashed it on her. “Do you think I can’t see the photos you posted on Facebook just because you blocked me?”
She read the line of words in an extremely mean and mocking voice. “Today, I finally saw him. He’s still so righteous and handsome. I believe this must be a chance to make up for it.”
After reading it. Kerise roared. “I worked so hard to raise you, and you just lied to me like this?”
Elsie looked at her in shock. “You, you peeked at my Facebook?
You promised me you’d never check my phone…”
“You lied to me first!” Kerise did not feel she was in the wrong. She yelled hysterically, “If you didn’t do anything shameful, why didn’t you dare to let me check your phone?”
Tears blurred Elsie’s vision. It was a summer night in early July, but she felt like she was on a cold December night. Her entire body was cold. She wanted to say something but could not say a word.
“I know nothing I say will help! Elsie thought, ‘It has been like this in the past. It is like this now. And it will be the same in the future.
In the end, she fell to her knees in front of Kerise. “Mom, you did nothing wrong. It’s my fault.
“I’m useless. I’m the useless one. I fell for Zayn. I got him into trouble.

“So, I’m begging you. Please let me be kind for once and take on the responsibility from back then to let Zayn’s life return to
normal”
