“Did Louis not inform you of this?” he asked in curiosity.
“Of course not.” Xavier frowned deeply, an antagonistic look in his gaze. “Louis told me Dumbo was trying to get something across the border for you, Josiah.”
Xavier was initially leaning against his office desk but straightened his posture all of a sudden.
He stared at Josiah in all seriousness. “What are you plotting that you need Dumbo to cross the border in your stead?”
“What’s your guess?” Josiah suddenly got the urge to peek into Xavier’s mind.
Xavier furrowed his brows. “Is it really illegal drugs?”
Remaining silent, Josiah heaved a sigh. “It’s not anything illegal. It was the drug that brought you harm, but it might also be the key to saving you. Yulissa had injected a hefty dose of it into you, so your dear Dumbo was about to bring those overseas to have them analyzed by foreign authorities. Do you get it now?”
After hearing that, Xavier studied Josiah with an incredulous look on his face, then glanced at Winnie with a similar expression.
“You believed him? You believed in the bullsh*t Josiah said and were about to bring those drugs abroad even if you had to lie to me about it, saying that you were visiting your granny?”
Winnie and Josiah exchanged glances before heaving inaudible sighs.
It seemed that Xavier had yet to recall that segment of his memory at all.
“Forget about what Josiah mentioned. All you need to know is that I wasn’t about to bring anything illegal abroad. Since we have decided to clarify this at the press conference, we should prepare our speech. Send someone from the PR department.”
“All right.” Xavier wore a frown. Whenever Josiah spewed some odd nonsense, his mind would go blank.
He was not sure what was happening, but he trusted Winnie unconditionally and was willing to extend that trust to Josiah.
When they were awaiting the arrival of the employees from the Public Relations Department, Winnie asked Xavier, “You didn’t even know what I brought to the airport, nor did you have any idea what happened over there. What gave you the courage to put me in charge of dealing with the press? Aren’t you afraid that you might screw up?”
Without even thinking, Xavier sniggered. “Hah! I, Xavier Fairchild, always strike first, no matter if I’m in the right.”
Josiah raised his hand in agreement. “I can testify for that. He had always been like that growing up, possessing the traits of someone domineering. However, this trait has been amped up as of late.”
“I see.” Winnie arched her brow and went on with her interrogation of Xavier. “What if both Josiah and I were in cahoots and had gotten our hands on some illegal drugs?”
Furrowing his brows, Xavier took a few moments to contemplate it but put on a sinister smirk afterward.
“So what? You’re innocent to me as long as you claim to be. I find in the two of you my friend and my woman respectively, so I will not let such a predicament befall you two. Therefore, make sure everything goes according to plan at the press conference later on, understand?”
Josiah was touched by his words. “And here I am assuming you’ve forgotten all about me ever since you got yourself a girlfriend!”
Xavier’s expression changed in an instant. “But you have to make sure to stay away from my Dumbo!”
