Silly Bride novel (Winnie and Xavier) novel Chapter 224

On their way back, Winnie kept on urging the innkeeper to speed up, but she did not tell him the news she got.

She was not sure whether the innkeeper was trustworthy. If she told him, there was a big possibility that Christopher’s identity would be exposed.

Throughout the whole ride, the innkeeper repeatedly blamed the bad road condition for hindering their speed. When they reached the inn, a car full of people arrived right after them.

They were all Harold’s men, and all of them were equipped with guns.

Without saying anything, they barged into the inn to search the rooms and chased all the guests out into the courtyard.

The inn had around a dozen of guests, including Xavier.

Right when he came out, he met Winnie’s eyes.

While she looked at him worriedly, he gazed back at her with incomprehension, disappointment, and condemnation.

The night before, Winnie had slipped something strong into his water. It was likely that he had just woken up.

Obviously, he would feel upset after realizing what she had done to him.

However, since they were in a special situation, Winnie could not let her eyes linger on him for too long. She hurriedly retracted her gaze.

Unwilling to give up, Xavier continued to watch Winnie’s every move.

Greta, who was standing beside Winnie, did not notice anything odd about the latter. With a voice only the two of them could hear, she said, “My men must have run into these people last night. They probably guessed that these people would come, so they definitely won’t come back here and get themselves into trouble.”

Winnie nodded. “That’s great. We can try to keep ourselves alive without affecting each other.”

“Yes. I’ll contact them again after we get through this.”

Right after Greta said that, a gunshot rang out in the courtyard.

A short man had fired his gun into the air.

His expression was ferocious as he lowered his arm and pointed the smoking gun at the people in the courtyard.

“I know very well that some people among you are going against Mr. Horton. If any of you are hiding these people, you better act smartly and hand them over! Otherwise, you’ll lose your life for a bunch of strangers. Do you understand?”

He aimed the gun at a random man and demanded, “Was it you who hid them?”

That man shook his head frantically. “No! I have never hidden anyone. My friends and I are emerald stone merchants. We’ve heard of Mr. Horton, and we would never dare to go against him.”

“Is that so?” In truth, the short man did not have any evidence. He just wanted to make an example using the poor merchant. “You never learn, do you? You won’t spit out the truth until I put a bullet in your mouth.”

Without blinking an eye, he pulled the trigger and shot the merchant’s legs twice.

The merchant instantly collapsed to the floor, sobbing and pleading loudly, “Sir, please let me off. I really didn’t hide anyone! I’m just an emerald stone merchant. Please have mercy on me!”

“Ha!” The short man sneered and mocked, “I guess it will take a few dead people to teach you guys what fear is.”

“That’s enough, Wesley!” At that moment, a man wearing sunglasses got out of their car and stopped the short man.

It was none other than Christopher.

He strode over to the short man, Wesley, and scolded, “Mr. Horton doesn’t like to kill the innocent. You’re going overboard. If you keep doing this, who will dare to join Mr. Horton in the future?”
