Silly Bride novel (Winnie and Xavier) novel Chapter 268

“No, you aren’t dreaming,” Winnie replied. At that moment, the person walking toward them was no stranger but Nate.

Winnie rolled up the windows on both sides of the car and said to Josiah, “Didn’t you want to show off your driving skills just now?”

“Yeah.” Josiah glanced outside and turned to face Winnie again. “However, they are blocking us with three cars. You aren’t expecting me to ram them with this car, are you? You heard how I keep complaining about this lousy car, and it simply can’t help us get out of this mess.”

“I know,” Winnie replied with a frown. “What I meant is you could reverse the car and leave via the route behind us. There’s a narrow road about five hundred and fifty yards behind us, and we could take that way. Or, we could make a ruse, reverse the car, and find an opportunity to escape.”

Josiah retorted, “Do you think that could possibly work out? Look at their cars! Our car sucks! I’ve got a feeling that they will catch up to us in no time.”

For one moment, Winnie was rendered speechless. Then, she glanced at Josiah and muttered, “What’s that supposed to mean? Are you going to give up without a fight?”

With a knot between his brows, Josiah answered helplessly, “Nate’s coming over. How about we talk to him? Maybe he’s an ally?”

“That’s impossible!” Rolling her eyes, Winnie pointed at her head and spoke. “He’s been brainwashed by Yulissa. Besides, I’ve figured out why he’s here.”

“Why?”

“What else could it be? Yulissa must have contacted him herself. This woman is even smarter than we thought. Plus, she’s cold-blooded and merciless. As long as she can make use of a person, she won’t let the opportunity go to waste.”

Winnie paused, then continued, “Yulissa can no longer rely on Harold. She broke my arm, too. Back then, I fought back, but she managed to escape. Later, I told Leandro to track her down, but he couldn’t find her. Ever since her escape, she must have been looking for Professor White.”

She went on, “She knows the purpose of our trip very well, that is, to bring Professor White home. As we are bringing him home, all arrangements must have gone through the Fairchild family. She must have gotten Nate to sniff out info for her.”

After that, Winnie frowned and asked Josiah sternly, “Does the helicopter belong to the Fairchild family or the Houghton family?”

Josiah understood what Winnie meant. He scratched his forehead with furrowed brows. “It belongs to the Fairchild family, but I’ve already told the members to keep their mouths shut. Nate could still find out about it if he wanted to, though. D*mn it! What’s wrong with him? Was he poisoned by Yulissa or something?”

“Probably. Didn’t he come all the way here to do Yulissa’s bidding? Call Xavier at once and tell them to be careful of Yulissa. Nate even knows our route, so I’m certain he’s aware of the point of departure.”

“Okay!” Josiah took out his phone. “I’ll call Xavier now.”

At the same time, Nate arrived.

He walked past Josiah’s side and stopped outside the window where Winnie was.

Winnie eyed him blankly before withdrawing her gaze.

Nate was immediately angered by the look of contempt on the woman’s face.

He slammed a hand on the glass and screamed, “Winnie, roll down your window!”

About a month ago, Winnie had performed a tracheotomy on Nate at the Fairchild residence. The breathing tube in Nate’s windpipe had already been removed, but there was still a bandage around his neck. As such, he did not sound as commanding as he used to.

Winnie could barely hear his words clearly, but she did not bother herself with him.

When she noticed Josiah was still trying to call Xavier, she began to panic. “What’s wrong? Is no one answering?”

“Yeah.” Josiah was anxious. “No one’s answering the phone, but it doesn’t make sense. He normally answers his phone. Do you have other numbers? Maybe Christopher’s or the other mercenaries.”

“Christopher doesn’t have a phone with him right now. Call Greta. I’ll read out her number,” Winnie replied. Then, she started to read a series of numbers.

Josiah dialed the number immediately and turned on the loudspeaker. Unfortunately, Greta’s phone was switched off.

Winnie became even more nervous. “Dial another number.”

She read out Mason’s number.

Yet, the automated voice from the other end of the line indicated that Mason’s number was not in service.

“What’s going on?” Josiah exclaimed. “Something must be wrong on their end. Else, we would have been able to reach them.”

“Keep calling Xavier!” They had all been in a rush to escape, so Winnie did not think it abnormal if they accidentally reached an area with poor reception or switched off their phones.

In spite of this, it was strange that Xavier did not answer his phone.

“You call him!” Josiah passed his phone to Winnie.

Frowning, Winnie took the phone and asked, “What are you doing?”

“I’m going to kill someone!” Josiah opened the door and got out of the car.

Winnie could tell he was going to fight Nate, but it was too late for her to stop him.

Josiah had already grabbed hold of Nate’s collar.

“Why the f*ck did you come here instead of resting at home?” Josiah glared at Nate and punched him in anger.

As a result, Nate stumbled a few steps back.

He tried to retaliate after steadying himself, but Josiah had already predicted his next move. In one swift motion, Josiah pinned Nate against the car.

Nate was an actor, and the entertainment industry favored individuals who were tall, thin, and fair-skinned. Although Nate was almost as tall as Josiah, he was skinnier than the latter.

Hence, he could hardly struggle after getting pinned against the car by a furious Josiah.

Josiah pointed at his face and gritted his teeth. “Are you in cahoots with Yulissa? Where is she now? What the h*ll do you want?”

Nate’s mouth was already bleeding as a result of Josiah’s punch. After spitting a mouthful of blood on the ground, he turned to regard Josiah again.
