“You mean it?” Winnie lifted her hand and pinched his cheek. “Come to think of it, that sounds like a good plan. I’ll leave blithely after hitting you. That would be quite a scene compared to how they asked me about the wedding earlier. But are you ready to do this?”
“Why ask me?” Xavier stared intently at her. “Just do it at your pace.”
Winnie narrowed her eyes. “Somehow, I feel you don’t want me to hit you.”
“That’s right,” Xavier inched closer and whispered in a deep voice, “I just want to savor every inch of your body.”
“What makes you think you can do that?” Winnie smirked before putting her hand into his coat’s pocket.
Despite the subtle tease, they knew they should not display physical intimacy in public.
Nonetheless, the intimacy they engaged in and the bickering over a power struggle would always bring them closer to each other.
In this particular leg of the race, Winnie had the upper hand as she managed to bite the man’s chin.
Under such circumstances, Xavier would always forget how he got mad in the first place.
Her action rendered him speechless. “You’re really my bane, Winnie.”
“What’s wrong? You mad?” she asked.
“Of course not,” he replied, “I couldn’t be happier.”
Winnie chuckled. “Your bane is going to feed you some fruits now.”
She carried a plate of fruits, placed it in front of Xavier, and picked up a piece of watermelon with a fork.
Xavier did not want her to make a mess, so he took over the plate and the fork from her.
Meanwhile, Nate was observing their interaction from a distance. These two always seem emotionally distant and treat others indifferently, but they’ll always engage in light-hearted banters and feed each other whenever they’re together.
He was envious of their relationship.
Not only had Xavier long seen through Yulissa’s vicious nature and hypocrisy, but he also managed to meet a great woman like Winnie after breaking up with Yulissa.
He could not help but envy Xavier. We both have similar tastes and family backgrounds, but why still can’t I find the love of my life?
Nate wanted to know what it meant to fall in love with someone.
In the meantime, another person whose eyes were green with jealousy was also staring at Xavier and Winnie.
The person was none other than Shania, who belonged to the same entertainment company as Nate.
She came to the event not because Nate invited her but because her publicist brought her there.
Her publicist did this to boost her exposure in the media. At the same time, she also hoped to highlight Shania’s connection with Nate to increase her popularity since the latter was her senior in the company.
Little did Shania think she would bump into Winnie.
Earlier, when she asked the store manager about Winnie, the manager refused to reveal her identity, claiming his customer’s details were private and confidential.
She looked at Xavier and gave him a baffling smile. “Mr. Fairchild, do you know your wife is spending your money on her lover behind your back? How could you fall for a woman like that? All the socialites would have cried their eyes out had they known you’d chosen this kind of woman as your wife. Did you not know she flirted with another man and bought him gifts?”
All the guests were struck dumb by the remarks Shania made. All this while, they thought Xavier and Winnie were a match made in heaven since they would be getting married soon. What is she talking about?
The journalists and videographers quickly carried their equipment over and surrounded the couple.
Xavier knitted his brows and looked at Winnie. “Who is she?”
Winnie shrugged her shoulders. “No idea. But I guess she has successfully gotten the media’s attention.”
Shania was bereft of words after seeing Xavier’s reaction. Excuse me? Is that how you react to the things I just said? How could you still look so calm? Shouldn’t you be mad at your wife?
Feeling even more frustrated, Shania gestured for her assistant to come over and snatched the phone from her hands.
“I have evidence! My assistant took a photo of them!” Shania scrolled through the phone, found a photo of Lucas wrapping his hand around Winnie’s shoulders, and showed it to Xavier.
A vortex of anger began swirling inside Xavier as he could tell the photo was not fabricated.
Winnie was surprised that Shania had pulled this trick. She also did not expect her frail-looking assistant would be the one taking her video.
The photo was a screenshot from a video. Shania did not show Xavier the video because she did not want him to know that Winnie eventually brushed Lucas’ hand off her shoulders.
Winnie looked at Xavier and said, “I think you should listen to my explanation.”
Before Xavier could give her a response, Nate walked over and stood before them.
