After sending Josiah away, she sat on the couch and ruminated over the matter.
However, when she raised her head, she realized that Jacinta was still in the kitchen doing the dishes.
It’s just a pot and some utensils, but she has been washing it for more than fifteen minutes.
As Winnie fixed her gaze on her grandmother, she felt as though everything was a jumbled-up mess. Nothing made sense to her, for everything was too complicated for her to comprehend.
Jacinta was her beloved grandmother who singlehandedly went through a lot of trouble to raise her and her mother.
Winnie continued staring into space, struggling to figure everything out until Jacinta wiped her hands dry and walked out of the kitchen.
“Who came by earlier?” Jacinta asked.
Winnie glanced at her. “It’s Josiah. He came to get something.”
“Oh. Why didn’t you invite him in for a cup of coffee?”
“He just dropped by to get something and left quickly.”
“I see. It’s late. Aren’t you tired after working the whole day? Go on and wash up before you go to bed. I have already washed up.”
“Granny.”
“Yes?”
Winnie stood up. “Is there anything you’d like to tell me after hearing the story that I told you earlier?”
Jacinta froze before chuckling out of the blue. “It’s a story that you’ve heard. I’ve never heard of it before and have nothing to say about it. Go on to bed.”
“All right. Good night, Granny.”
Winnie left her door ajar when she returned to her room, for she needed to listen to Jacinta’s every movement. She didn’t know what Jacinta had done behind her back and had no idea what the latter was planning to do next.
Initially, she had wanted to contact Xavier. However, when she remembered that Jacinta might be the one who dropped the flowerpot that nearly hit him, she immediately decided against it.
Instead, she contacted Josiah.
She texted: Have you sent the samples for testing yet?
After sending the message, she waited for a reply. However, she did not expect Josiah to call her directly.
Immediately, she rejected the call and sent him another message.
It read: I’m at home. I can’t answer your call.
Josiah swiftly texted her back: What’s going on? I was driving and couldn’t ask you just now. I heard that the flowerpot fell from above and almost hit you and Xavier.
Winnie’s fingers flew across the keyboard as she typed: Yes, but not exactly. I was under an awning avoiding the rain. The person who dropped the flowerpot only had one target, and it was Xavier.
Josiah immediately replied: What? Oh my! The soil that you gave me was found in your house, right?
Winnie texted: Yes.
Josiah asked: From your balcony?
Winnie replied: It was from my Granny’s wardrobe.
