After sending Josiah away, she sat on the couch and ruminated over the matter.
However, when she raised her head, she realized that Jacinta was still in the kitchen doing the dishes.
It’s just a pot and some utensils, but she has been washing it for more than fifteen minutes.
As Winnie fixed her gaze on her grandmother, she felt as though everything was a jumbled-up mess. Nothing made sense to her, for everything was too complicated for her to comprehend.
Jacinta was her beloved grandmother who singlehandedly went through a lot of trouble to raise her and her mother.
Winnie continued staring into space, struggling to figure everything out until Jacinta wiped her hands dry and walked out of the kitchen.
“Who came by earlier?” Jacinta asked.
Winnie glanced at her. “It’s Josiah. He came to get something.”
“Oh. Why didn’t you invite him in for a cup of coffee?”
“He just dropped by to get something and left quickly.”
“I see. It’s late. Aren’t you tired after working the whole day? Go on and wash up before you go to bed. I have already washed up.”
“Granny.”
“Yes?”
Winnie stood up. “Is there anything you’d like to tell me after hearing the story that I told you earlier?”
Jacinta froze before chuckling out of the blue. “It’s a story that you’ve heard. I’ve never heard of it before and have nothing to say about it. Go on to bed.”
“All right. Good night, Granny.”
Winnie left her door ajar when she returned to her room, for she needed to listen to Jacinta’s every movement. She didn’t know what Jacinta had done behind her back and had no idea what the latter was planning to do next.
Initially, she had wanted to contact Xavier. However, when she remembered that Jacinta might be the one who dropped the flowerpot that nearly hit him, she immediately decided against it.
Instead, she contacted Josiah.
She texted: Have you sent the samples for testing yet?
After sending the message, she waited for a reply. However, she did not expect Josiah to call her directly.
Immediately, she rejected the call and sent him another message.
It read: I’m at home. I can’t answer your call.
Josiah swiftly texted her back: What’s going on? I was driving and couldn’t ask you just now. I heard that the flowerpot fell from above and almost hit you and Xavier.
Winnie’s fingers flew across the keyboard as she typed: Yes, but not exactly. I was under an awning avoiding the rain. The person who dropped the flowerpot only had one target, and it was Xavier.
Josiah immediately replied: What? Oh my! The soil that you gave me was found in your house, right?
Winnie texted: Yes.
Josiah asked: From your balcony?
Winnie replied: It was from my Granny’s wardrobe.
Winnie replied: Yes.
Josiah sent another message: You also said that you would tolerate your loved one’s flaws, but you will not connive in their crimes. Do you remember?
Winnie responded: I remember.
Josiah wrote: Then, we have to investigate and find evidence. The law will punish those who commit crimes. Even if they end up going to jail, they’ll have a chance to start anew as long as they genuinely want to turn over a new leaf.
After moments of silence, Winnie replied: Yes. You are right. We should do this.
Josiah texted: Yes. We. Winnie, it’s difficult to do this to the person you love, but please know that we’re in this together. You’re not alone. I, Xavier, and you are a team.
Winnie replied: Okay.
Then came Josiah’s reply: I would also like to remind you that your granny might have been in contact with Stuart. You should keep an eye on her. I’m afraid that she might leak the news to Stuart, and he’ll take the opportunity to escape.
Winnie replied: I get it. I’ve already installed a surveillance device on her phone. I’ll know everything that she’s doing. There’s nothing out of the ordinary at the moment.
Josiah replied: Okay. I’ll send Xavier’s men to keep an eye on Stuart. Oh, by the way, I investigated the guy who stalked me earlier and confirmed that he received a large sum of money recently. Stuart gave it to him. Thus, my guess is correct. Stuart already knows that we are investigating your granny. He definitely has more tricks up his sleeve other than trying to kill Xavier using a flowerpot. Last time, Stuart pushed all the responsibility to Zyon and escaped unpunished. We can’t let him escape this time!
Winnie texted: All right. When the results are out, please let me know. I’ll go and take a look at my granny.
After sending that message, she walked to Jacinta’s room.
She had just exited her own room when she realized that the door to Jacinta’s room was wide open, and the room was empty.
“Granny?” Winnie immediately left the room and started searching for her in the house.
