“No,” clarified Winnie. “I just passed by your station and met two police officers that I know. One of them is Greta. You should know her because you have seen her photo before.”
“By the way, I saw…” Halfway through her sentence, Lisanne lowered her voice all of a sudden. “Winnie, I can’t tell you much because this matter is confidential.”
“Confidential?” Instinctively, Winnie frowned. “It must be a big deal then.”
“Yes, but I really can’t share the details with you. Please don’t ask me anymore.”
Winnie acknowledged her request and said, “I understand. Since you can’t tell me, then I won’t ask. But, Lisanne, please don’t take unnecessary risks and stay safe always.”
Winnie was aware that both Greta and James were not ordinary police officers.
That was especially true for Greta. All her assignments were very challenging.
Winnie recalled the day when she sent the body of Mason over. Greta took the initiative and asked James for permission to participate in the investigation regarding Mason. However, James turned her down straight away and told her that their superiors had assigned another case to her.
Winnie assumed that the assignment that Greta had must be related to Lisanne and the science academy.
With that thought in mind, Winnie reminded her again, “You have to take care of your own safety. You are a scientist, not a combatant. No matter what you may encounter in the future, save yourself first.”
“Don’t worry, Winnie. The police will protect us. Furthermore, I’m not alone. Oh, crap! I slipped up again. I really can’t chat with you any longer. In a short while, I’ll be going to the Director’s office.”
“All right then. I won’t take up your time. Please remember what I told you.”
“Got it.” After a while, Lisanne said, “After this, you may not be able to get in touch with me for some time. But there’s no need to worry. It’s normal.”
“I understand. Bye.”
After ending the call, Winnie asked the driver to send her to Josiah’s hospital.
On the way there, she had already phoned Josiah and informed him.
Therefore, once Winnie arrived at the hospital, he took her straight to the laboratory.
Josiah handed her a set of protective gear according to her request. “What do you intend to do?”
“To prepare myself,” replied Winnie as she put on the protective gear. “Harold is very well prepared, and we should do that as well. Avenport isn’t Manchernius. Therefore, Harold can bring with him any weapons he wants to, but not us. Hence, we have to take things that have instant effects but don’t cause major harm so that we will be able to restrain him at the crucial juncture.”
“I understand” Josiah nodded. “That’s easy. I can supply you with an endless number of scalpels. Rumor has it I own a limited-edition scalpel studded with diamonds. Do you want it?”
“A diamond-studded scalpel?” Winnie rolled her eyes at him. “Such an expensive thing. Save it for yourself.”
Josiah burst out laughing. “I was just joking with you. You actually believed me. Since when you have seen such a scalpel?”
Winnie glared at him again. “How should I know? Perhaps, that’s a hobby of yours?”
The two of them helped one another zip up before entering the laboratory.
Halfway through, Winnie’s phone rang out loudly.
It was a troublesome thing to remove and put back on a protective suit. However, Winnie thought it might be something urgent, so she left the laboratory immediately.
It was Jasmine from Garland Group.
