All that was left was to wait for the results.
She had initially planned on heading home since Rodunst and Chanaea were neighboring countries, and the flight would only take a little over two hours.
Xavier, however, rejected Winnie’s suggestion.
On the one hand, he didn’t want her to tire herself out from the traveling. On the other, he wanted to spend a relaxing time with her.
The pace of life in Avenport was way too fast, especially when compared to Rodunst’s.
Moreover, Winnie and Xavier had already discussed vacation plans after their return from Manchernius. Alas, they had to postpone the trip because they were worried about Harold showing up to exact revenge.
Now that the latter was dead, they could finally feel more at ease.
Later that night, the couple stayed in their hotel room and lay on the bed.
“Are there any places in Rodunst you particularly want to visit?” Xavier asked. “Let’s just extend our trip here and enjoy ourselves.”
Winnie snuggled closer and rested her head on the man’s shoulder. “Yes. My dream is to have a short stay on their island. I’ll sleep in as much as I want and wake up to sunbathe at the beach. Then, I’ll go scuba diving in the afternoon and bring back a haul of the freshest seafood. We can have seafood chowder on one night and paella on the other! When night falls, we’ll settle into our deck chairs and listen to the wind and the waves… That’s what I had previously planned, anyway. Now that my eyes are in this condition, I can’t do any of it. Hmm… I guess I could still go for a swim, but given how bad I am with directions in the water, I’m afraid I might swim further and further away from shore. So, we can forget about my plans. What about you? Is there anywhere you want to visit?”
“In all honesty, I don’t. I’m happy to go wherever you want to,” Xavier replied as he hugged Winnie. “You know, other than diving, everything else that you mentioned is perfectly doable… Come on, let’s do it. I’ll make the arrangements immediately, and you won’t have to worry about a thing. All you have to do is wait for my freshly caught seafood.”
Upon hearing that, Winnie playfully tweaked his ear. “Really? Are you sure you know how to fish?”
To her surprise, Xavier harrumphed and lightly bit her finger. “Will you stop doubting a man’s ability? Even if I can’t catch the fish with my hands, I can always try hook fishing. I can also grab slower-moving creatures like sea cucumbers and abalones. Why are you dissing me anyway? Are you any good at fishing?”
“Of course not!” Winnie exclaimed before bursting into laughter. “I told you I planned to go fishing, but I never promised a successful catch. You’re the one making assumptions.”
“You rascal!” Xavier scolded as he pinned Winnie onto the bed. “How dare you make fun of me.”
In return, the latter looped her hands around the man’s neck and pulled him down. “Why not? Didn’t you say you only want to make me happy? Teasing you brings me a lot of joy, so that should please you, shouldn’t it?”
“Of course! I’m happy as long as you are!” Xavier said as he inched toward Winnie. “I can make you even happier in a while…”
Knowing what the man was hinting at, Winnie deliberately dodged him and breathed, “Sure. But tonight, I want you to submit to me.”
“Is that so?” Xavier replied, his voice deep and husky. “Hmm… Looks like you want to be on top, huh? Bring it on, then. Show me what you’re capable of.”
“Just wait and see…” Winnie teased before getting up to straddle Xavier.
As the latter fixed a fiery gaze on her face, Winnie slowly pulled out the sash on her nightgown and wrapped it around his eyes.
Alas, just as Winnie had pushed Xavier onto the pillow, the doorbell suddenly rang.
