“Of course.” Harold turned his head and exhaled puffs of smoke at Shania’s face. “I personally threw him into the deep canyon. There’s no way he could walk out alive.”
His gaze darkened when he recalled the situation at the time.
The locals had tanned skin, so he sprayed his body with paint that made him look tanned. After spending some money, he infiltrated the local exploration team Lisanne organized.
Xavier happened to be in the cave that day. Before Harold could find the right time to orchestrate his plan, their exploration team made a grave mistake, giving him the upper hand.
A team member miscalculated the number of explosives required, and his foolish mistake led to the collapse of the entire cave.
At that time, Harold knew luck was on his side.
Xavier was in critical condition, with a severe head injury that left him unconscious and bleeding profusely. It was then that Harold appeared on the scene and, without hesitation, stripped Xavier of his possessions, including his clothing, phone, and wallet.
He initially wanted to find a rock to smash Xavier’s face, but someone came over at that time. Since he did not have the time to deal with Xavier, he dumped the latter’s body into the canyon.
To prevent leaving any evidence behind, he even burned off the papillary ridges on the ends of his fingers.
After regaining his senses, Harold couldn’t help looking at his bandaged hands and said with a smirk. “Soon, I’ll be able to replicate Xavier’s fingerprint. Even the most sophisticated machines will identify me as Xavier.”
“But those wealthy and powerful individuals are masters of scheming.” Shania voiced her concern. “Do you know how I escaped from prison? Xavier’s uncle paid a hefty sum to secure my release. He knew how much I hated Xavier and wanted to use me to kill him. Though they pulled countless evil tricks and had been scheming against each other for years, Xavier was still alive and well! So you can imagine how scary those people are.”
Harold started to lose his patience. “What are you trying to say? Are you trying to rain on my parade?”
Upon noticing the frown on his face, Shania immediately reached out and touched it. “Calm down. I’m not trying to put you down. Somehow, I don’t think Xavier will die so easily. We need to see it to believe it. We must find his body.”
Harold scoffed and swatted away Shania’s hand. “His body? That’s long gone. All that’s left are memories that his relatives cling to.”
“But how can you be so sure when you haven’t even seen his body?” Shania asked.
Harold let out a chuckle. “The canyon has magma underneath it. Do you know what magma is? Even superheroes from movies will instantly melt if they fall into it.”
“Of course, I know what magma is, even though I haven’t witnessed it firsthand. I learned about it in textbooks when I was in school.” Shania’s eyes lit up with excitement. “So this means not a single trace of evidence would be left behind! Even if you screwed up, they won’t be able to take any action against you.”
Harold smirked and said, “Exactly. So just shut your mouth. A lifetime of wealth and prosperity awaits us.”
“Got it.” Shania hugged Harold’s arm tightly and spoke sweetly. “I’ve been devoted to you since you brought me here. You won’t be able to get rid of me even if you want to. So, once you end things with Winnie, would you make me Mrs. Fairchild?”
Harold lifted Shania’s chin and responded with a smirk. “So you want to be the mistress of the Fairchild family? Well, that depends on what you can do to make me happy.”
Shania’s hand slid down in disappointment. “Are you not satisfied with what I did earlier? Besides, I know your secret now. It would be wise to keep me by your side, wouldn’t it?”
A hint of murderous intent flashed across Harold’s narrowed eyes. He questioned, “Are you threatening me?”
“Oh, no. Of course not. We’re just having a chat. Do you want me to get on my knees and propose to you? Harold, I just want to marry you. If you think I’m not up to your standards, help me become Winnie. I think I can pull that identity off pretty well.”
Harold sneered, “Do you think assuming someone else’s identity is child’s play? It’s not just a matter of having a different body. You’ll also have to undergo surgery to alter your appearance and master every aspect of her life.”
Shania replied softly, “I know it won’t be easy. That’s why I’d prefer to become Mrs. Fairchild myself. Marry me, please?”
