They instantly locked down the area. Zyon’s men had no choice but to retreat since they could not confront the cops.
Nonetheless, Zyon’s men did not return empty-handed. They found a few emerald beads and handed them to Zyon.
Zyon let out a mirthless laugh while rotating the beads repeatedly in his palm.
He turned to Yulissa and said, “Good thing you knew the lunatic had a bracelet. They nearly fooled me with these emerald beads.”
“This must be Louis’ work. He must have placed these beads because he knew we would destroy the evidence.” Yulissa sounded worried, “I’m afraid he’ll foil our plan.”
Zyon snorted. “Once I take over Xavier’s position, I’ll kick Louis out of Fairchild Corporation. Let’s see how he can compete with me once he’s out of the picture! But we won’t be able to find out if the bracelet has Kylie’s fingerprints anymore. I have to talk to Hamish and get him to convince Kylie to take the blame.”
“Would he agree, though?” Yulissa asked.
Zyon responded with a smirk. “Hamish had sold off his wife in his younger days, and he had also sold off his daughter at midlife. He’ll do anything to safeguard his interest. By the way, let’s not meet up too frequently. Meet me when this issue has subsided.”
“Got it.” Yulissa clenched her fists. What makes him think I want to be there? I swear I’ll kill him when the time is right!
As he was about to leave, the housekeeper came in with a parcel. “You have a package, Mr. Fairchild. The deliveryman from Intra-City Express Service said the sender requested you to open the parcel immediately.”
“Who on earth has the audacity to be so demanding?” The request aroused Zyon’s curiosity, even though he was about to leave the house.
He pointed at the table. “Put it there. Open it up.”
The housekeeper immediately unwrapped the parcel.
The parcel was a cardboard box, nothing extraordinary, and it was stuffed with foam peanuts.
After going through the package for a while, the housekeeper found a plastic bag that was as large as a child’s palm.
“Mr. Fairchild, this is the only thing found in the box.” The housekeeper then passed the plastic bag to Zyon.
After taking over the item and glancing at it, Zyon froze for a moment. He immediately asked, “Where’s the deliveryman?”
“He left…” the housekeeper answered sheepishly. Zyon’s agitated reaction made her feel she had done something wrong.
“What are you waiting for? Go and get him right now!”
He wanted to get the deliveryman because the plastic bag contained one of the beads of the bracelet he had been hunting for.
The bead, stained with soil, was carved with the letter “W.” It must be the bracelet Winnie lost when she was shoved down the mountain. But who? Who delivered this bracelet to me?
While all sorts of questions raced through Zyon’s mind when the housekeeper left, the landline phone on his coffee table started ringing.
The landline phone in his house was nothing more than a decoration as people rarely called the number. Yet, at that moment, the phone rang unexpectedly.
Zyon could not help but feel eerie.
