Chapter 226
“I think we should look for President Walker before we leave.”
“Do we really need it?” I muttered.
I wasn’t sure President Smith heard me as he took the elevator without answering me. Left with no choice, I followed.
Arriving at the floor of the President’s office, President Smith and I exited the elevator and headed for Eric’s office. After we communicated to the secretary the purpose of our visit, President Smith was allowed to enter, while I was stopped by the secretary. “Miss Hawkins, please wait here.”
What does she mean? Am I not allowed to meet Eric?
Startled, President Smith told his secretary, “She is the chief designer of our company. We are here to speak with President Walker.”
“I’m sorry, but Ms. Hawkins is not on the list of people President Walker has to meet today.”
What are they doing? With a strange feeling in my heart, I smiled at President Smith. “President Smith, please go find him. I will wait for you here.”
Left with no choice, President Smith went to Eric’s office alone. Meanwhile, all the secretaries ignored me and concentrated on
their work.
It was horrible to be ignored by so many people at once as I had never been treated differently before. Inevitably, I got irritated. Obviously Eric is trying to teach me a lesson. He’s funny. What a petty man!
As I was silently criticizing him, I suddenly heard a soft voice from behind. “Oh, Miss. Hawkins? Why are you standing here?”
Turning around, what caught my gaze was the seductive face of Camille Sanders. Before I could respond to her, all the secretaries, who had been concentrating on their work just now, looked up and greeted her hospitably.
Shifting his attention to the secretary named Ms. Armstrong, Camille flashed her a smile. “Miss Armstrong, why didn’t you inform President Walker that Miss Hawkins is here?”
“I’m not here to meet President Walker,” I quickly explained. “President Smith is discussing with President Walker. I’m waiting for my boss here.”
“And even? Why didn’t you invite Ms. Hawkins to the saloon? This is so inappropriate.”
The secretaries were silent. Judging by their embarrassed expressions, I finally understood why I was treated differently – it must be Eric’s order.
Not knowing what was going on, Camille passionately pulled me into the living room. As my legs hurt after standing for a long time, I didn’t refuse the invitation and entered the room.
After making me a cup of coffee, Camille sat down next to me. “I am very sorry for what happened at the clubhouse. I was astonished too.”
Embarrassed by the mention of what happened at the clubhouse, I gave her a polite smile. “MS. Sanders, I should apologize. My friend’s behavior must have shocked her that day.”
“No, I wasn’t shocked” Camille smiled. “Oh yes, we are about the same age, so please stop calling me Ms. Sanders. It sounds weird. You can call me Camie, and I’ll call you Lily.”
“Clear.”
“Lily, you are a discreet person.”

“What?” I didn’t understand her at that moment.
