Chapter 415
‘This is for me. My birthday is coming up so he wants to surprise me. He’s probably asking her opinion since we’re the same size. And my friend is engaged.
‘I see. I thought he was cheating on you, but watch out, Lily. I’ve read stories about women who kidnapped their friends’ husbands. Men always cheat when they get rich.
— Thank you, Mrs. Fant. I will be.’
‘I’m going now. Come for breakfast when you’re done. Then she left.
I didn’t expect Carson to walk around with her in public. And to think I was being so cautious. No, this could not go on. There would be a next time, and I wasn’t sure I could lie if they kissed in public.
I was still hesitant to see Eric, but what did Mrs. Fant said it helped me make my decision. This matter couldn’t be postponed any longer, so I quickly washed up and went to Eric’s company.
I parked my car and entered the elevator. Then my phone rang incessantly. I picked it up and to my surprise the caller was Eric. “What are you taking so long? He looked impatient.
I was going to tell him I was here, but then I said, ‘I’m not fine so I’m cancelling’.
‘What?’ He raised his voice. ‘Are you kidding me, Lilian?’
‘No. I’m really bad. I groaned, feigning weakness.
‘Do you have any symptoms?’ he asked gently.
‘My head hurts and I think I have a fever,’ I lied.
“You probably have a cold. I should have worn my suit,” she grumbled. ‘Where are you? Are you home or…’
‘I’m home.’
‘Stay there. I’ll take you to the hospital.
‘Thanks, but I’m going to take some paracetamol.’
‘Hey, this is serious, and you have a fever. Have some water for now. I will go immediately.
‘N-‘ He hung up before I could finish.
I laughed. Eric didn’t seem like someone who would be so rash. He kept calling me stupid but now he was being stupid too. I had my parents and Mrs. Fant would take care of me, and I could ask the driver to send me to the hospital, so why should he be worried?
I was going to tell him I was on the elevator, but since I was close to my stop, I didn’t. As I got off the elevator, I walked slowly to my office, and I didn’t see him on the way. I think picking me up is a lie. After getting ready for work in my office, I texted, ‘I thought you were picking me up.’
