Chapter 423
Jolene didn’t realize I was upstairs, so she kept complaining, ‘For some reason, I don’t feel well after signing the lease. I feel dizzy, nauseous and just
tired.’
Wait, is she pregnant again?
Carson said something the other way, but she denied it: ‘No, I had a checkup and I’m not pregnant. The doctor is also baffled as I still have primary ovarian failure.
POF? Ah, so last time’s checkup results were real. I thought she was lying, but why did she have that disease? Could it have something to do with the abortion? Not wanting her to notice me, I took the elevator down. Eric would be talking to Camille for a long time, and I didn’t have time to wait, so I hailed a cab as soon as I left the hospital.
Halfway there, Eric called. ‘Where are you?’
‘I have something to do, so I left.’
‘Oh, you got angry, didn’t you? Small.’
Stingy my foot! Say it to yourself! I scolded silently. ‘No, I’m not. I really have something to do.’
‘Fine. You can take tomorrow off to pick up your things. The survey starts in two days, so don’t forget. Also, is your passport still valid? God, he knows how to complain
‘It is.’
‘Good.’
I would have forgotten my passport if he hadn’t mentioned it, so I asked the driver to take me home. No one greeted me when I entered, and the house was silent, no one present. Unconcerned, I went to my room to get my passport, then when I came down, I saw Victoria.
“Are you back for something, Lily?”
‘Yes. Where are all the others?
‘Eliza and her mother are still in the hospital. She needs a few more days before she can go home. Then Victoria whispered, ‘Carson comes home late lately.’
He must have played with Jolene while I wasn’t here, but I didn’t care anymore. ‘Just let him do what he’s doing. Make a fool of yourself, Victoria.
‘Oh yes, the old fool hasn’t been home lately either. He said he rented some new warehouses for raw materials. He went to supervise because he’s
worried.’
‘Where is this new warehouse?’ I asked.
‘South Avenue, I think.’
That sounded familiar. Eric’s assistant mentioned that name in his report, so was Carson the one Eric was trying to sabotage? No, he seemed indifferent when I mentioned my revenge plan to him. And he even scolded me, so how did he set it up so quickly?
Carson wasn’t an idiot, so sabotaging him took careful planning. There were many steps involved from raw materials to finished product in this trap, requiring a lot of prep time – and by that I mean months, not days. Was he already trying to sabotage Carson before I told him? Did
he not tell me because he was worried I would leak the secret?
