Chapter 429
“Yes. Isabella brought me here before.”
“How it was?”
“Better than hamburgers. At least that’s what I think. Do you want to try it?”
“Here?”
“Yes. You have to eat as you walk around the place.”
Eric hesitated, as he obviously didn’t accept eating walking the streets. I suddenly wanted to play a trick on him, so before he could say anything, I ordered two meatloaves.
“It’s already going up!” The owner
quickly gave me
buns.
I handed him one, but he didn’t even take a bite, while I munched on mine. Even though I had already eaten much earlier tonight, I did. five stomachs, so finishing the meatloaf was easy.
When I finished, Eric was still holding his meatloaf and licking his lips. “Are you going to eat it? Give it to me if you don’t go.”
As he spoke, I picked up his roll and ate it. This finally made him snap, so he took it back and ate it, much to my shock. I just took a bite! Won’t he feel disgusted?
The meatloaf tasted good, so Eric had a few more bites. When he noticed my look, he tried to feed me his bread, and I looked at him, shocked. He smiled smugly before taking his bagel back and finishing.
I clumsily moved forward, head down, as Eric quickly followed and took my hand. “What are you doing?” I whistled.
He ignored my question and continued to hold my hand as we made our way through the crowd. As we walked, I could feel my face and ears turning scarlet, but I couldn’t refuse.
Then a little girl selling flowers got in our way. “Here, sir, a rose for your sweetheart.”
“No”, I said in refusal.
Eric ignored my protests and took a rose stem from the girl, looking delighted. “How much does this cost?”
“Eighteen.”
Eric handed me the rose and dug through his pockets. However, he didn’t bring any money with him, so I expected him to be embarrassed. Instead, he asked me for money without feeling the least bit embarrassed. “Give her the money. I’ll pay you back later.”
This was the first time anyone had asked me to pay for a flower they bought for me, so I gave the girl fifty. As she was about to give us our change, Eric said, “Keep the change.”
