Chapter 1117 Meeting Richard Again
Bonus nstead of blindly looking for trouble with those people from the secret forces, Alex asked around.
The Greaves family, along with the Jefferson and Grant families, prominent forces in their own right, fell victim to a hostile takeover orchestrated by the secret forces.
Shane Jefferson, the current head of the Jefferson family, exemplified his cowardly and avaricious nature by swiftly capitulating to the demands of the secret forces. In a desperate bid to preserve his own life, he willingly transformed from a family head to a mere lackey, servile to the secret forces.
Alex knew Shane’s character well. The latter was the kind of person who could strangle his own mother to death just to save his own life. It was only logical that he would do such a thing.
However, Richard was a man of unwavering character, unwilling to surrender the Grant family’s assets without putting up a fight. Fueled by their unyielding resolve, Richard led the Grant family in a staunch resistance against the secret forces, resolved to battle them until the very end.
No one knew that the elites of the Grant family were no match for the people of the secret forces and ended up being defeated swiftly and effortlessly.
Richard was humiliated by the people of the secret forces, and in the end, he still couldn’t protect the Grant family’s assets. Ultimately, it was taken away by the members of the secret forces.
In the current circumstances, Richard and the Greaves family shared a common plight-they were both without a place to call home. However, the Grant family held an advantage in terms of their numbers, and they had not yet reached a point where scarcity of food became a pressing concern.
Alex arrived at a rather secluded alley according to his source and knocked on the door.
In no time, the front door was opened. Richard’s voice rang out. “Who is it?”
No sooner had the words been spoken than Richard saw Alex standing at the door. Without a second thought, he closed the door again.
From behind the gate, Richard said, “Are you here to revel in our misfortune? Leave at once! Your presence is unwelcome here.
Alex had no idea Richard was so stubborn. He sighed and said, “Old Mr. Grant, why must you be like this? Can you let me explain the misunderstanding that happened previously? I didn’t come here to revel in the Grant family’s misfortune. Instead, I plan to help you. Can you please let me in?”
Richard’s countenance reflected a myriad of emotions, revealing his internal conflict. He wavered for a brief moment, uncertain whether to grant Alex entry. He was aware of Alex’s competence.
He acknowledged the injustice suffered by Maggie, but in the grand scheme of the Grant family’s predicament, it seemed trivial. As the head of a big family, Richard understood the importance of aligning his priorities.
Sighing, Richard finally opened the door and let Alex in, his face still showing some dissatisfaction.
“What do you plan to do to help the Grant family? Are you asking for Maggie to become your mistress? Or do you want me to apologize to Kate?” Richard asked tentatively in a sarcastic tone.
“I consider Maggie’s concerns as my own, and you can trust me to handle the matters of the Grant family diligently. As for apologies, they are unnecessary, as Old Mr. Grant, you have done nothing wrong. In fact,
it is I who owe Maggie a debt that can never be repaid.” Alex’s voice resonated with sincerity as he expressed his thoughts, his mind filled with memories of Maggie’s captivating presence. Since his divorce from Heather, Maggie was the only woman who had truly captured his heart.
