Chapter 1228 Enduring Humiliation 

Upon realizing that Alex was also going to dine at the same restaurant, Heather immediately felt the urge to leave. She was accompanied by a man old enough to be her father, while Ale seemed to lead an extraordinarily carefree life, surrounded by beautiful women. After comparing herself to him, Heather wanted to make a swift exit before Alex spotted her. 

Heather immediately turned around and returned to the car. Seeing this, Dexter was confused. He opened the car door and asked, “Ms. Jennings, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?” 

Heather shook her head. “No, I just suddenly don’t feel like eating Eurasian cuisine. Let’s go for Anglandurn cuisine instead!” 

Upon hearing that, Dexter scowled. He didn’t know that Heather’s change of heart was due to Alex. and thought that she was deliberately disrespecting him. 

When we first met earlier, I complimented her, but she completely ignored me. Even when I attempted to engage her in conversation on the street, she acted indifferent. How can she treat me this way, considering that I’m the owner of a company? I asked her where she wanted to dine, and she chose a place with Eurasian cuisine. Dexter’s words left Heather feeling utterly humiliated. She hadn’t anticipated being seen in such a light by others, and this realization caused her heart to tighten with pain. 

After getting out of the car, Heather said, “I’m feeling a bit unwell. I don’t feel like eating, so I’ll head home now.” She planned to hail a cab to go home. 

Having faced criticism from this man, Heather had no reason to remain and subject herself to further humiliation. 

Dexter grabbed Heather’s arm tightly. His voice was filled with rage as he asked, “You think you’re something special, huh? Do you really believe that just because you’re somewhat attractive, I can’t do anything to you?” 

“Do you know why Carmen specifically asked you to accompany me and not someone else? It’s because your brother, Lucas, owes me five hundred thousand. Given your current financial situation, you definitely can’t repay it. If I report this to the police, your brother could end up in jail for a few years.”

Despite her anger, Heather also felt helple: because Carmen and Lucas were her relatives, and she couldn’t simply turn her back on them. 

Heather’s sense of pride paled in comparison to the thought of her brother going to jail. She flashed a self-deprecating chuckle and replied, “Fine, I’ll come with you.”
