Chapter 1233 Drunk
Alex couldn’t tell how much truth lay in Kate’s words. He understood all too well the kind of schemes and tricks she was capable of. And for that, he couldn’t invest his genuine feelings
for her.
Kate was so intent on marrying him purely because of his status as the chairman of the Four Seas Corporation. This was something Alex understood very well.
If it weren’t for Emmalyn, Alex might never have had much to do with Kate in his lifetime, let alone marry her. But now, as Emmalyn grew older, Alex didn’t want people to say that Emmalyn grew up without a father.
Alex merely smiled in response to Kate’s words.
Despite being met with cold indifference, Kate didn’t lose heart. After all, she knew she couldn’t rush things. If she pushed too hard, not only would it be impossible for Alex to fall in love with her, but all her efforts could also backfire.
Dexter held great contempt for Alex in his heart. Is he planning to freeload while acting tough
now?
“Ms. Sutton, there are plenty of men in this world. Handsome, rich, and of good character. With your beauty, you can have any man in the world. Why are you fixated on a divorced. man who lives off others? I feel it’s not worth it for you,” Dexter said.
Upon hearing those words, Kate picked up a glass of wine from the table and splashed it all over Dexter’s face. She retorted, “Who I fancy is none of your business! What right do you have to speak about Alex like that? In my eyes, he is the best man in the world. No one else can stand up to him!”
Dexter looked disheveled as he wiped the wine off his face. If it had been Heather, he would have slapped her without hesitation. However, since it was Kate, he could afford to offend her.
Worried that Kate might hold a grudge, Dexter slapped himself a couple of times, expressing his remorse. “I’m so sorry,” he said. “I don’t know how to act. I deserve this. Please, don’t be mad!”
Kate snorted coldly and let things slide with Dexter. Instead, she turned to Heather and gave her a long look as if to say, this old man you have by your side is nothing! Not only is he buttering up to me, but he also just apologized to me.
Heather was drinking sullenly, using alcohol to drown away her humiliation. If only she hadn’t divorced Alex back then, perhaps things wouldn’t have turned out differently.
“Do you want to sing, Alex? I’d love to hear your voice!” Kate nestled into Alex’s arms and cooed sweetly.
“No, I don’t enjoy singing,” Alex declined without hesitation. He then stood up. “I’m going to the restroom.”
Kate felt disheartened. However, she had no choice but to let the matter slide.
Dexter sang song after song; his voice wasn’t too bad to listen to. Since Alex wasn’t around, Kate played with her phone; while Heather tried to drink all her troubles away until she threw up all over the floor.
