Chapter 808 What A Waste
Alex and Maggie shopped all over for Richard’s birthday gift which was only one day away.
When they still couldn’t find anything suitable, Alex pinned his hopes on the emerald box in his possession.
He figured that it would make a presentable birthday present as a last resort.
However, Maggie was upset to see how distracted Alex was. It’s Grandpa’s birthday. How can he be so nonchalant about it?
She then pinched him on the arm and complained, “Why can’t you put more effort into this? If Grandpa disapproves of you, wouldn’t that put an end to our marriage?”
A look of resignation descended upon Alex. He was not only forced to attend the birthday dinner but also compelled to pick a gift and gain her grandfather’s approval.
“I didn’t promise to marry you! Besides, I have got a backup plan, so don’t worry,” Alex explained.
His reply caused Maggie to grab his arm with a smirk on her face as she ranted, “I didn’t hear that, and I don’t care! All that matters is that I want to marry you!”
For some strange reason, Alex found her reaction adorable, and for once he didn’t feel like struggling free from her grasp.
Compared to her distant and polite demeanor previously, Maggie had changed a lot. Alex seemed to be attracted to this new side of her..
As everyone had needs, Alex was naturally no exception. He figured that Maggie would make a good wife after his divorce from Heather.
The fact that Alex didn’t avoid her advances brought a smile to Maggie’s face. She then cast the matter about her grandfather’s gift to the back of her mind.
With her head leaning against Alex’s arm, Maggie walked with him without saying another word. She relished the romantic moment which felt surreal to her.
This was the first time the rigid Alex didn’t turn her down, an indication that she now stood a chance given that he had developed feelings for her.
The more she thought about it, the more elated she became. She was in such a good mood that every- breath she took felt invigorating.
Holding Alex’s arm, Maggie strolled around as if they were a loving couple. It wasn’t until they arrived at an interesting-looking jewelry store that they came to a stop.
“Why don’t you get me some jewelry? I think you have a good eye for such items,” Maggie suggested with
-a smile.

Throughout the long time they knew each other, Alex had kept a decent distance. Therefore, Maggie seized upon the opportunity to deepen his longing for her.
Nonetheless, Alex was stunned by Maggie’s words. Since when does the eldest daughter of the Grant family lack jewelry? But since she wants one, I don’t mind getting one for her.
