Chapter 851 Not A Threat.
The effect of the pill was wearing off. Antoine felt limp all over. Furthermore, his shoulder, where Alex had struck, was in excruciating pain.
Having just realized the unfathomable depths of the youngster’s power, he became painfully aware of the gap between them.
Consuming the pill did nothing. He still managed to cause me great harm. Only Master Fonzo can deal with this fellow
“I’m not feeling well. Somebody help me down!” Antoine ordered the two little monks atop the stage, not intending to receive Alex’s blow.
“Hang on!” Alex held out a hand and stopped the monks in their tracks. Then, he fixed Antoine with a cold. glare. “You are a divine monk, Master Antoine. How could you go back on your word?”
Antoine turned red at the rebuke. While he did give Alex his word, his body had become alarmingly frail. In addition to the newfound knowledge of the youngster’s uncommon strength, an immense reluctance gripped him.
“I told you,” he said, growing ever paler. “I’m not feeling well. We’ll let this slide.”
Alex sneered, “Are you afraid, Master Antoine? I’m just an ordinary fellow. Surely a monk of your prestige couldn’t have gotten hurt?”
Antoine’s pallor grew worse at Alex’s words. To escape with his life, he forced himself to swallow his anger.
“As I said, we’ll let the matter slide. You wouldn’t force me, would you?”
Alex scoffed, “How forgetful of you, Master Antoine. The young man told you he believed you and begged you to spare him, yet you still struck.”
“…” Antoine gnashed his teeth. I did intend to kill the young man. Now that he mentioned it, I admit it was wrong of me to do so.
“This is Green Mountain Monastery. Surely you’re not going to make an enemy of us by laying a finger on me? You have one chance to leave, and I’ll let this slide. And I guarantee Green Mountain Monastery will not make trouble for you.” Faced with no other choice, Antoine invoked the might of his order in a final attempt to intimidate Alex.
“As I said, a little place like Green Mountain Monastery is not a threat to me. Brace yourself, Master Antoine. I’m going to strike.” Rolling up his sleeves in a dramatic fashion, Alex prepared himself for a showdown.
Having witnessed Alex’s prodigious skill, Antoine dragged his limp body backward.
“W-What are you doing? Help! Get him out of here!” he yelled at the two little monks, abandoning all pretense.
Just as they were about to come forward, the two younger monks hastily retreated when Alex fixed his glare upon them. They did not dare take another step forward.
The crowd below the stage was stunned by the scene.
This is turning out to be the opposite of what we expected. Master Antoine is a legend of Green Mountain Monastery.
How is he afraid of a young, ordinary fellow in his twenties? Frightened to such a degree, no less. Things are looking odder by the minute.
