“Old Mr. Grant, I’m clearly no match for you! Why don’t we just call it a day?” begged Alex. 

He was wholly confused since that was his first time playing chess, so much so that he didn’t even know why he suffered an utter defeat. 

Richard grew even happier upon seeing how troubled Alex was. The sight of Alex’s frustration reminded him of himself when he was playing against Giles.

“You ungrateful girl! I dote on you so much, yet you chose to take your fiancé’s side before you even get married. I’m so sad!” Richard put on a disappointed act. 

“I’m still on your side, Grandpa. But, Alex is truly no match for you. Isn’t it more fun to play chess with an opponent that’s evenly matched with you?” Maggie quickly explained herself. 

Richard waved his hand and said with a smile, “I don’t think so. I enjoy playing chess with Alex.” 

“If that’s the case, I shall continue to play with you.” Alex couldn’t bring himself to spoil Richard’s mood. 

Just like what Richard had said, Alex would have plenty of time to spend with Maggie in the future. It was not often that they came to Lumenopolis, and they wouldn’t be staying for long either. 

Richard was currently in his eighties. The fact that he was already in his twilight years wouldn’t change even if he consumed the pill that Alex concocted. Thus, Alex thought it was important to make the elderly man happy when he got the chance.
