Chapter 953 The Revenge Of Richard 

Kate had tapped on the speaker button, so Alex heard Woody’s claim about their company’s impending bankruptcy. 

“What happened? Last I checked, the company was operating just fine. How could such at thing have happened so suddenly?” Kate asked worriedly. 

The Sutton family of Lumenopolis was the source of her confidence. Without it, she wouldn’t have any support. 

Woody explained on the phone, “I don’t know about the details, but the businesses under the Grant family suddenly announced their refusal to collaborate with us. Once the news spread, many collaborating companies began refusing to work with us. Even the ones with functional contracts have all reneged. With all these breaches of contracts, our company can no longer operate smoothly. A representative from the bank dropped by and requested us to pay back our previous loans. I’m at my wit’s end! That’s why I’m calling you. Please think of something, Kate, or our family will be ruined!” 

Once she understood the origin of the problem, Kate’s fingers clenched rightly over the phone. Her grip was so tight that her fingers started to turn white from the pressure. 

A flashback of her confrontation with Richard at the castle played in her mind. So that old man did all this because he was worried about a comeback from me. He didn’t have to, though. Just announcing his fallout with the Sutton family is enough to pitch all the individuals toadying up to them to single out us. With enough power, one can crush any hated existence at their whim and fancy. Destroying a second-class family is easy enough. 

Kate knew how weak and powerless she was, but she had never suffered such aggrievement. The resentment fueled the anger she felt. 

When Woody didn’t hear any response from Kate, he panickily questioned, “Kate? Why aren’t you saying anything? Are you listening to me, Kate? The government will seize our company if we don’t have ten billion within three days. We’ll really lose everything by then!” 

Suppressing her rage, Kate bit down on her lower lip. Upon tasting the coppery tang on her tongue, she assured, “Dad, calm down. I’ll think of something to solve this.” 

Right after she hung up her phone, she couldn’t hold in her tears and began weeping. 

“Alex, the Sutton family is a goner. I’ve lost my right to be with you, haven’t I?” Kate said helplessly with a pitiful look. 

He sighed at her remark. The situation had turned out to be out of his expectations. He honestly didn’t think Richard would take out his anger on the Sutton family in his urgency to protect his granddaughter.

“Don’t cry. We’ll find a way to solve this. Your crying isn’t helping with anything.” Alex consoled as he gently patted Kate’s shoulder. 

Kate lunged forward and began sobbing against his chest. Feeling tired from crying, she started, “This happened because of me. I can’t just watch my family fall into ruin like this. I can’t let the Sutton family be destroyed in my hands even if I have to beg Old Mr. Grant on my knees and suffer any humiliation they put me through.” 

Releasing her grip from Alex, Kate wiped her tears away and said, “Emma is still sleeping in her room and might wake up in a while. Please help me watch over her. I have to go and meet Old Mr. Grant now.” 

Kate turned around to leave when Alex grabbed her arm and guided her to sit in a chair. “Leave this matter to me. All you have to do is stay home and watch over Emmalyn.” 

“But the issue with the tech dome isn’t resolved yet, so how can I trouble you with this? Please let me go and beg Old Mr. Grant. Once he’s vented his anger on me, perhaps he’ll spare the Sutton family.” A troubled look crossed Kate’s face.
