Queeny continued, "It's not because I still care about you. It's just that given our current relationship, I should already be grateful that you're willing to investigate those gangs for me. I don't want to owe you more, nor can I afford to. Can't you see that?"
What she said was the truth as well as her innermost thought.
However, Felix laughed brusquely after hearing this.
"You don't want to owe me? Queeny, you've already owed me a lot. What's the point of saying things like this?"
Queeny stiffened.
She inhaled deeply and then said in a bland voice, "Fine. I admit that. Felix, this is both pivotal and dangerous. I don't have anybody else I can trust. I only got you, you know? Regardless of our twisted and checkered past, I know you're the only one who won't leave me high and dry when real danger comes. So I can be back to you without worrying. Can you promise that you'll bring me back safely and catch those people who want to hurt me? You won't let me down, will you?"
This was the first time in four years that Queeny had gazed at Felix with earnest and trusting eyes, which gave Felix the long-lost stirring feeling.
As he looked at Queeny, his eyes glinted with emotion, and his Adam's apple bobbed.
A while later, he finally said "okay" in a husky voice.
Queeny smiled.
"Then, let me go out by myself and play your role as I just said. You will tell everyone I poisoned Bella. After I go out in the evening, you'll bring some of your men and follow me from some distance behind. Don't get too close. They are very cunning. From this poisoning, we can tell that they have sent someone into the castle.
"Or rather, some of those in the castle are their members. I know the people serving you are trustworthy because they have gone through a strict selection process. Even so, to play it safe, we'd better not let too many people know about our plan."
Queeny's tone was solemn. Felix was also aware that this was no joke, for the two's lives were hanging on it.
He nodded heavily and said, "I see."
Queeny smiled at him and looked away.
"Go ahead then."
Felix froze.
He knew she was telling him to carry out the plan.
He also knew that once he stepped out of this door, he and Queeny would, at least within today, be hostile to each other.
Somehow, a sweet-and-bitter feeling rose from his chest.
Looking steadily at her, Felix said, "Queeny, after we find all those behind the scene and punish them, can we sit down and talk?"
Queeny's heart quivered.
Yet, she still didn't turn her head to look at him. Instead, her eyes were directed at somewhere far away outside the window.
After a long while, she answered, "OK."
Gratified, Felix walked up to her, bent down, and placed a kiss on the top of her head.
Queeny's body shivered slightly.
His low and sexy voice then said, "Queeny, I'll be waiting for you to come back."
That was just a simple sentence. However, it suddenly made tears well up in her eyes.
The time when they were head over heels for each other instantly flashed back to Queeny, as though she was playing a movie in her head.
With her eyes tearful, she plastered a faint smile on her face and nodded.
"Okay."
Then, Felix turned around and marched toward the door.
As he came to the door, he abruptly paused in his tracks, whipped around, and flung his arm. A vase on the shoe cabinet was instantly knocked to the floor.
