Appearing Shimon rather courteous, Shimon walked over with a strut and took a seat opposite them before picking a fruit on the table to eat.
“Don’t give me that angry look. It’s not like it will do anything. I’m not the one calling the shots in this. It’s someone high up.” He pointed above his head.
Gregory scoffed coldly, “Are you talking about Jeff Flinders?”
Shimon was taken aback. “Who is Jeff Flinders?”
Rendered speechless, Gregory reflected that Shimon did not seem to be aware of Jeff’s existence.
He wondered how many more members of the Flinders family were kept in the dark like him, thinking they were acting on Louis’s command when, in fact, someone else was the mastermind behind the scenes.
With that in mind, his expression turned into a grimace. Just who the hell was Jeff Flinders?
Judging by his age, Jeff looked to be about Gregory’s age. How was he able to get an old man like Louis to do his bidding?
Moreover, Louis was respectful towards Jeff, close to the point of worshipping. It did not seem as though the former was coerced at all and was leaning more towards having devotion that came straight from the heart, similar to one of a devout believer’s.
Indeed, a devout believer.
Prior to this, Gregory was unable to find the words to describe the relationship between Louis and Jeff. Now, it finally dawned on him.
Shimon was not bothered at all by Gregory’s silence. Taking another bite out of the apple in his hand, he said, “It’s not really intimidation. We know that you have gotten ahold of a piece, so just hand it out. You’ll have to hand it over in the end anyway.”
Gregory smirked. “If I give you the piece every time I find one, what if you refuse to hand over the drug in the end? What’s going to happen then?”
Shimon answered with a smile, “That won’t happen. We Flinders are all about credibility. Also, we all have to take the drug, so it’s not like it’s super rare or something. Well, with that expertise of yours, it won’t do us any good if we really have a falling out, so of course, we’re not going to shoot ourselves in the foot.”
After a pause, he added, “Moreover, you can keep the last piece. As long as the twelve pieces aren’t collected in full, it doesn’t matter whether you have one or twelve pieces in your hand. Do you understand what I mean?”
Gregory’s face looked menacing. It was not that he was concerned about this single piece of Arcane Jade. Instead, it was the feeling of subjecting others by force.
Since birth, he had always been a child of good fortune even though he was not favored by the Grahams and had been excluded by the Ynez when he was young. However, he lived a lavish lifestyle and was at the helm, so Gregory never had to agree to anything by force.
However, now, he had the feeling that every step he took was walking on a knife’s edge. It was awful to have his hands and feet tied down.
With Gregory having such thoughts, surely it was the same for Vickie since she had always a mind of her own and acted of her accord. She aloofly cocked her eyes at Shimon, hoping to penetrate holes in him with her stare.
Feeling embarrassed, Shimon rubbed his nose.
Honestly speaking, regardless of the times that Gregory had taken him for a ride, he had done a disservice to Gregory this time. After all, the interest of his family aside, he and Gregory were considered friends.
With his friend’s wife falling in dire straits, it was not very nice of him to kick a man when he was down.
Shimon sighed.
