At first, Gideon assumed that they would stay around for a little longer.
Nell laughed. “They are old. After all, they are homesick and can’t be away from home forever.”
“You’ve got a point.”
Gideon approached her and handed her a glass of milk.
Nell drank it and asked, “What time is it?”
“2:00 pm, still early.”
Nell nodded, paused, then asked, “I’m thinking, should we go home, too?”
Gideon asked, “When?”
“Tomorrow. I’ve checked the weather reports earlier. Tomorrow will be a sunny day. It’s time to head home after being away for quite some time. Lizzy has to go to school, too.”
“Ok, do inform Mom and Uncle Miller during dinner.”
“Mm.”
After agreeing, Nell brought up this matter during dinner.
Cathy was shocked when she realized that Nell would be leaving.
“Leaving? Do you find it uncomfortable here? Not used to it? Or any other reason?”
Nell grinned. “No, it’s rather nice here. It’s comfy and the meals are great. There’s nothing I’m not used to, but we’ve been away for quite a while and we have to go back one day. There are many matters to be taken care of at the company and Lizzy has to go to school. I came here to see the place you reside in and to find out whether you’re happy here. Now that I know you are, I feel relieved.”
Cathy seemed upset.
“But I don’t want you to leave.”
Ever since her amnesia, her personality had been naive and direct. She said whatever came to her mind.
As Nell listened, she felt a warm, fuzzy feeling in her heart and a smile appeared on her face.
“I know you miss me, and I miss you too. Next time, when you’re free, you can come back to the country to visit me. I want to introduce Grandma and Grandpa to you too. They’re good people. Right, Uncle, aren’t you close friends with Juliette Garrett as well? Her brother is now the leader of the Garretts and she’s a nice person. When you come back, I’ll introduce you to her.”
A fleeting sparkle appeared in Cathy’s eyes when Nell mentioned Juliette, but she eventually shook her head.
“Forget it, I prefer not to meet these people. I don’t remember many things in the past and I’ll have nothing to say when I meet them anyway. Might as well not meet them at all.”
Nell understood that Cathy had not fully accepted her past, so she nodded instead of pressuring her.
Cathy was at a loss for words when she could not stop Nell and her family members from leaving.
After dinner, she packed some items for them in silence.
Nell noticed her dismay. While everybody else went out for a stroll after dinner, she looked for Cathy, who was in her room and looked sad.
Cathy’s back was facing the doorway and she was arranging some items in her room.
Nell called her, “Mom.”
Cathy turned around. Realizing it was Nell, she wiped away the tears at the corners of her eyes and smiled. “You’re here.”
Nell did not expect her to be crying alone here. She stepped inside with a frown.
“Mom, what’s wrong?”
Cathy grinned. “Nothing, I opened the window just now. Some sand got blown in and it ended up in my eyes.”
