Cathy shook her head and sighed. "Don't worry about that, you're all so busy, and I've already given you plenty of trouble. I don't plan to get in the way anymore."
Nell was going to reassure her but got cut off.
"Don't tell me I was no trouble, I know that the reason Sean agreed to come along to China was not just because he is worried about me, but also because Gideon promised to give him better scientific equipment in addition to a grand sum every year for him to do as he likes. Even though the money doesn't mean much to you, I can't keep taking advantage of you like this Nelly. You were lucky and married into the Leith family but we can't step out of line because they're nice to us. That's not good."
Nell listened to her lecture and burst into giggles.
"Mom, I haven't even said anything yet and I got lectured."
She sighed and held Cathy's hand, patting it.
"Don't worry mom, the money isn't from Gideon. Your daughter is pretty capable herself, don't look down on me. I'm not as great at making money as him, but I'm not like other people too!"
Cathy was well aware that Nell’s business was doing very well.
The country's entertainment industry was largely dominated by Anning International now.
Two years prior, Nell was only acting as the director of public relations but slowly, Gideon gave the whole company to her. He even transferred his shares to her name.
Thus, she was now officially Anning International’s CEO alongside Xinghui Entertainment.
Xinghui Entertainment was still under Anning International, but that was only because Nell thought it was just a hassle to separate the two since she owned both companies anyway.
To be honest, after she transferred all of Xinghui Entertainment’s artists to Anning International and turned Xinghui Entertainment into a video platform, they started earning almost as much as Anning International.
Hence, money was no issue to Nell. She had the guts and the right to tell Cathy that.
Cathy knew that she was right but despite being comforted, she felt sorry for how busy she was.
It was more reason for her to not trouble Nell for what she wanted, but she did not tell her that.
After ordering some specialties from the shop and paying, they planned to reach the chateau at 11:30 am on the dot and then leave together.
When they left the shop, Nell had the nagging feeling that someone was following them.
She turned around to look but there was no one except the shop’s customers and the workers focusing on their jobs.
Nell frowned. Was she imagining things?
She pushed the thought away and walked across the street with Cathy.
The car was still parked there and the driver was still wearing the same top hat he wore that morning. He got out of the car to open the door for them.
Cathy was extremely chipper as if her mind was cleared, and the weight she carried in her heart was finally lifted. She felt like she was walking on air when she got into the car.
Nell found her mood contagious and was chatting away with her.
The car started up and slowly drove off.
Both ladies paid little attention to it and shared their thoughts and feelings about interesting things that happened in the country some time back.
Cathy seemed very entertained by the stories and asked for more as if she were making up for the lost time.
