Ethan, whose face was overcast, slammed his hand on the table.
“Nonsense! Who will you marry if not Young Master Jones? That rascal Jackman?”
Janet frowned.
She parted her lips to retaliate but thought otherwise when a slight pain tugged at her heart.
A low voice broke the long silence in the end. “Don’t worry, I won’t marry him either.”
This possibility was out of the question.
That man loathed her down to the marrow, to the point where it disgusted him to even touch her. Why would he want to marry her?
Janet tried her best to hold back those tears before continuing speaking, “I want to focus solely on my career right now. Besides, I’m still young, we can discuss my marriage again in a few years’ time!”
With that, she turned around and headed for the stairs.
Ethan was exasperated at her response.
He bellowed at the second floor. “I’ll cripple you if I find out you’re meeting that Jackman boy again! Try me if you think I’m only kidding!”
……
Both Gideon and Nell were given a break from work because of the festive holidays.
The couple was getting bored in Jincheng thus they decided to take a vacation to the south of the country.
Unexpectedly, however, a phone call came from the capital just one hour before they were scheduled to depart.
Old Master Leith had fallen dangerously ill. He had been in the emergency room since early this morning and no one knew for sure what would happen.
Emotions chased over Gideon’s features in quick succession. They were left with no other alternative than to put off the vacation. The utmost priority at the moment was for him to hurry back to visit the Old Master in the capital.
Nell was not bothered about the change of plans since she was not too enthusiastic about traveling to begin with. Besides, Gideon’s grandfather’s life was at risk. The elder’s health was undoubtedly the utmost priority.
She grew bored at home after Gideon took his leave. Eventually, she started occupying herself with work.
Nothing major happened either in Anning International or among the Xinghui’s artists. It appeared that everyone unanimously decided to lie low during this festive period.
Nell was delighted with being idle. She killed time by analyzing some old classic case studies.
She was reading up on the information on the couch this afternoon when Hannah called.
Today was only the third day of Chinese New Year. They were supposed to resume work in two more days.
She wondered about the reason for Hannah's phone call at this unexpected time.
Hannah’s excited voice blasted through the speaker as soon as Nell answered the call. “Elder Sister Nelly, are you free at the moment? Could you drop by the office?”
This stunned Nell. “What happened?”
“Great news! A super big shot has taken a fancy to our company and would like to sign with us?”
Nell was astonished by the news.
She was not lacking in self-confidence but Xinghui was in fact only beginning to get on track. Why would any big shot wish to sign under her?
However, her physical reactions spoke louder than her suspicious thoughts.
She asked while rushing upstairs to get changed. “Who is it?”
“You’ll know when you’re here.”
Hannah ended the call abruptly, deliberately keeping the listener on tenterhooks.
Nell frowned at the strange reaction but did not think too much into it. She drove to the office after getting changed.
Naturally, the office was empty during the holidays.
The elevator went all the way up to the sixteenth floor without making stops. Hannah’s enthusiastic voice could be heard from far away. She was probably looking after the guests.
Nell walked toward the commotion in quick strides.
“Mr. Lim, here are some videos of the events organized by our company. Although our scale of operation is still pretty small at the moment, we do receive support from our main partners, Anning International. We promise to deliver the best resources if you sign with us.”
A cocky voice filled the air.
“Pfft! Would we have come to your lousy company if we’re lacking in resources? We could’ve just gone to Anning International, no? Do you think they wouldn’t rush to provide Elder Brother Daniel with premium resources?”
Hannah froze.
Sometimes, a fabricated truth would work out better when dealing with business. How could she continue the discussion when the other party had uttered such things?
Just as she was trying to rescue herself out of the awkward situation, the staccato clicks of high heels on the floor echoed off the walls.
