Spoiled by the President novel Chapter 147

“It’s like this. Your recommendations of Lucy and Janet were great. It’s hard to find such young and talented actors that are willing to put in the work. Janet, in particular, has the kind of expression you don’t see in young actors.”

Without butting in, Nell quietly listened and waited for his next line, although she could already guess what he was trying to say.

As she expected, Gareth said, “There’s another two months before the filming of ‘Hidden River: Ashley’ is finished. I have a friend who just so happens to be producing a new film. He’s a young director who hasn’t made much of a name for himself. The production may not be a major one but he has his eye on Janet. He wants Janet to play the lead. I was wondering if you could say a few words to her, since you guys have a great relationship and all?”

Nell smiled.

“Director Leith, this is a great thing. Why don’t you speak to Jan personally? Aren’t you guys together all the time on the set? You have all the opportunity in the world!”

Gareth threw a look as though he was in an awkward position.

“This... I’ll be honest, I asked her but she refused.”

Nell was taken aback as it came like a bolt out of the blue.

She knew Janet inside out. Although she was an A-list celebrity in the entertainment world, she was never the type to treat people favorably, nor was she a snob who looked down upon fresh directors.

With Hancock Enterprise at her back, Janet did not lack the resources. Her crew also took scripts as they came, picking parts that were to Janet’s liking without any regard to whether it was a major or minor production.

For Gareth to recommend her the part, it could only mean that the script was pretty good.

It was rather strange for Janet to refuse.

Nell nodded. “If that’s the case, she must have her own reasons for doing so! I’m only a friend of hers. I can’t make decisions for her. I’m afraid I can’t be of help to you on this.”

Gareth replied, “I know. I’m not demanding that you get a yes from her. I just want to give it another go while there’s still a chance.”

In a fix, he rubbed his arms. “To be honest, my friend fancies her for the role of the female lead. I’m not counting on you to persuade her but if you could help me ask about the reason behind her refusal, we’ll be able to adopt the appropriate measures!”

Nell gave it a thought and finally agreed to it, seeing that the act was without prejudice and Gareth did present himself sincerely.

Nevertheless, she gave a warning. “Let me make this clear. I’m only enquiring about the reason and won’t help you to persuade her. Don’t blame me if it doesn’t work out in the end.”

Gareth gave his word. After the duo came to an agreement, he left feeling grateful.

Just before he departed, Gareth placed the gift on a table.

Helpless, Nell phoned Gideon to tell him about the matter.

It never occurred to her that Gideon would simply smile and reply, “I told him to bring a gift. You should just keep it.”

Nell was rendered speechless.

However, it was better if she left it at that since he already said so.

After hanging up, she gave Janet a call, inviting her to go shopping and have dinner together.

Janet agreed.

It was six in the evening when Nell got off work. She drove straight to the mall where Janet agreed to meet.

Due to being involved in the shooting of a film, Janet had been with the filming crew and barely had a chance to come out. Today was a day she could let loose.

The moment they met, Nell quickly picked up on Janet looking a little off-color. Her face was pale and she seemed rather run-down.

She asked with concern, “Is everything okay with you? Has the shooting been hard on you or are you feeling out of sorts?”

Nell reached out to feel her forehead.

To her surprise, Janet leaned back to dodge. Averting her gaze in guilt, she shook her head. “Nothing. I’m just feeling a little under the weather. It might be from the night shoots lately!”

Without putting much thought into it, Nell nodded in comprehension.
