Nell nodded.
“That doesn’t sound right.” The old madam frowned. “By right, she would’ve predicted something might happen to her with the other woman and her b*stard daughter moving in. There’s no way she would just leave a necklace for her daughter.”
“Grandma, what you’re trying to say is...”
“Look, if I’m your mother, I would know they’re not just coming for your father, but the family’s inheritance.
“If that’s the case, I’d transfer part of the inheritance to your name first. This way, if something happens to me, you won’t end up in a vulnerable position. Don’t you think so?”
Nell was in a daze.
It was not as though she never had her doubts but really, it was not worth pursuing this with her mother passing on.
Moreover, to her knowledge, many of the Morrison Corporation’s assets were already forcibly taken by Shaun and Sylvia even prior to her mother’s death.
Her mother, Cathy, was a woman of few desires and not one to fight back.
Hence, even as the mother and son combo grew a larger appetite over the years and changed Morrison Corporation to Jennings Corporation, she had never said a word.
It might be her misconception of hers Nell had always thought that her mother had something on her mind.
Sometimes, Cathy would unconsciously give Shaun a look as though she did him wrong.
This must be the reason why Shaun’s behavior was getting out of line.
With a frown, Nell fell deep into her thoughts.
As Gideon did not want to dwell too much in the past, he interrupted the conversation.
“Alright now. It’s time to eat. Let’s not talk about this. Come, Nelly. Try the Chinese mitten crab here.”
He shelled a crab and put it in Nell’s bowl.
Having collected her thoughts, Nell nodded.
On the opposite, Lizzy exclaimed, “Daddy, I want to eat the crab too.”
Gideon took a glance at her before scooping a small piece of crab roe in his bowl to give to her.
The little child was not having it when she saw that tiny piece of crab roe in her bowl.
Puffing her cheeks, she said in rage, “I don’t want it! I want Daddy to peel a huge crab for me. One as big as Mommy’s!”
Lizzy then pointed at Nell’s bowl.
Nell burst into laughter.
Gideon put on a menacing look.
“Aren’t you aware of your health? The doctor said that you can’t have too much food of cold nature. You’re allowed to eat this much today because I’m being nice while your mom is here. You can give it back to me if you don’t want it.”
He reached out to grab her bowl.
The little kiddo immediately snatched her bowl away.
With those clear eyes shrouded in dewiness, she pouted her lips, looking rather aggrieved.
“Bad Daddy, you take my crab. I don’t want to sit with you.”
She jumped down the stool and stormed toward Nell and took a seat beside her.
“Lizzy wants to sit with Mommy.”
She lifted her head and gave Nell an ingratiating smile.
As her heart melted, Nell caressed Lizzy’s head to console her.
She placed a piece of meat into Lizzy’s bowl and softly encouraged her. “Lizzy can’t eat crabs. Why don’t Lizzy have some braised pork? The braised pork is really delicious.”
Lizzy nodded and scooped the meat in her bowl to eat. She narrowed her eyes in satisfaction.
“Thank you, Mommy. The meat Mommy gave me is yummy.”
