The group of bodyguards started to wonder what was going on when they were suddenly stopped in mid-pursuit. Behind them, President Lawson came after her as well.
“Huh? Why are you stopping there? Where is she?”
As the bodyguards obsequiously looked to the front and at the girl in Joel’s arms, President Lawson followed along their line of gaze and was caught by surprise.
Who was this guy? Why did he look familiar?
Although Joel had always maintained a high profile, not many had actually come in contact with him before, but everyone knew him from tabloid gossip.
Besides, it was in the night and the colorful lights cast over the hotel’s corridor were rather dim.
Moreover, since President Lawson had one too much to drink and was subsequently kicked by Lucy, the alcohol and anger in his system clouded his vision.
All he saw was a familiar-looking young man cradling Lucy in his embrace. Assuming Joel was a rich man’s son he had seen somewhere before, he laughed grimly. “Oh, here I was thinking about where you went. I guess you found yourself a backer.”
Letting out a menacing smile, he advanced forth. “Brother, I’m President Yanni Lawson of Yesheng. This woman took my money and tried to run. She even kicked me!
“I can tell you’re a man of position. It’s best to let the sleeping dogs lie. We can be friends today and I’ll introduce you to a prettier girl the next time.”
He then approached with the intent to pull Lucy away.
He had not taken two steps when Luis came in between.
Yanni frowned at Luis.
“Who are you? Why are you in my way?”
Without a word, Luis darted a cold stare at him.
Yanni did not take him seriously, but he could not cross over to the other side with someone in the way, so this person must be the young man’s bodyguard.
Ha! The presence of a single bodyguard was an indication of the young man’s mediocre status. Yanni usually brought along three to four bodyguards when he was out and about.
Since the man was not of high status, there was no need to be overly polite.
With this in mind, Yanni ran his mouth at the bodyguards at his elbow. “What are you still standing there for? Bring that woman to me!”
In the absence of the nerve to go against him, the bodyguards complied and were ready to step up.
Just then, Joel finally spoke.
“You say you’re the president of Yesheng?”
As their eyes met, Yanni arrogantly nodded. “Yes! What’s the matter?”
He was under the impression that the young man had become fearful at the mention of his name and wanted to give in.
After all, Yesheng may not amount to a first-rate international enterprise but the company still carried weight in the capital.
Most importantly, Yesheng had Leith Corporation at its back, which equated to an ironclad backer.
Even if the young man dared to get in his hair, he would not have the guts to step on the Leiths’ toes!
To his surprise, the young man opposite him showed no signs of fear. On the contrary, he smirked coldly.
Without further questions, he whipped out his phone and made a call.
“I give you three days to wipe out Yesheng from the capital!”
What?
Wipe out Yesheng from the capital?
Had his ears deceived him?
As though he had heard the biggest joke of his life, Yanni laughed out loud.
“Young man! Who do you think you are? Wipe out Yesheng from the capital? How do you know on what scale Yesheng is operating on? Do you even know who is the backer behind Yesheng? For you to boldly proclaim this, you sure are a laughing stock.”
Yanni had no clue whose nerves he had gotten into today and how much trouble he had put himself in.
Nevertheless, he may be in the dark but that did not mean the bosses around Joel were unaware.
Their faces changed the moment Joel made the call.
Everybody knew that the second young master of the Foster family may be promiscuous and somewhat of a good-for-nothing, but he often stood by his words and would take a bullet for his friends and family.
