It was a message from Bailey and only contained a single sentence.
The corners of Gideon’s lips curled up in fury and his eyes turned ice-cold.
All this time, Nell had been drifting in and out of consciousness. One moment, she dreamt of Yvette passing the lotus flower to her and giving her an evil smile.
The next moment, she dreamt that a black-clad man was chasing after her as she ran for her life and in the end, she was tackled onto the ground by the man.
The man took out a knife and grinned at her maliciously. “You know too much, die!”
Nell jolted awake in terror.
Opening her eyes, the first thing Nell saw was the intricate and beautiful ceiling above her head. The next thing she noticed was the gorgeous bedroom she was in.
Only a small orange lamp was lit inside the room. Gideon Leith was sitting against the bed frame, doing something on his laptop computer. When he saw Nell open her eyes, he asked softly, “Are you awake?”
Nell breathed a sigh of relief. She got up and wiped away the cold sweat that had formed on her forehead.
Gideon’s eyes flashed.
He put the laptop computer aside, got out of bed, and poured her a glass of water.
Nell accepted it and drank. The warm water seeped past her throat and into her stomach, banishing away some of the lingering fear inside her.
“I almost got into trouble today,” she said suddenly.
There was a dark glint in Gideon’s eyes. “What happened?”
Nell pursed her lips and took another sip of water to wet her throat. Then, she said, “When I was changing, I accidentally overheard the man named William Cabot talking to the daughter of the Griffin family, Scarlet Griffin. It sounded as though William Cabot gambled and lost one billion dollars and it was the company’s money. They were discussing how to solve the problem.”
Nell was very certain that tonight’s event must be related to those two.
Otherwise, why did all this happen right after she had overheard their conversation?
In addition, Yvette was not a good person. The reason Nell felt drowsy was because of the lotus flower and it was given to her by Yvette. Therefore, they must be in cahoots with one another.
Nell was a person who knew her strength and limitations. Under ordinary circumstances, she could handle these kinds of people by herself, but the Griffin family had deep roots across Country F. If she did not tell Gideon Leith about this right now, she might not be able to escape certain death.
“I think it’s because I overheard their conversation, that they’re trying to silence me.”
She paused and then continued. “That Yvette isn’t a good person either. She gave me a lotus flower. It was after I inhaled the fragrance on the flower that I turned drunk. Prior to that, I didn’t drink much.”
Gideon did not say anything except staring at her with his deep, unfathomable eyes.
Nell noticed the look in his eyes and her heart shuddered.
“You don’t believe me?” Her heart sank slightly.
Gideon’s lips quirked indiscernibly. He caressed the top of her soft hair.
“How can I not believe you when you showed so much trust in me when you were in danger?”
The moment Gideon saw Bailey bring Nell to him, he felt that something was wrong.
Although Nell indeed appeared like she was drunk, it was Bailey’s expression that gave it away.
It was not until he got into the car and saw the message from Bailey, that Gideon was sure that it was a deliberate act of malice.
The message from Bailey read, “Walls have ears, witnesses are silenced.”
When Nell saw that Gideon did not doubt her story, she felt relieved. She patted her chest to rid herself of the residual trauma. “I was really scared to death tonight. Fortunately, I bumped into Bailey, otherwise, I might have been killed.”
A hint of coldness flashed across Gideon’s eyes.
“Oh yeah, they also mentioned Liam Jackman. Allegedly, if only Liam had not kicked William out, he wouldn’t have ended up in this situation. I think I need to warn Janet. Although I’m not fond of that b*stard Liam, he’s still the father of her children. It’s better if nothing happens to him.”
As she spoke, she picked up her phone and began to text Janet.
Gideon watched Nell’s stern behavior, then suddenly asked her, “Do you know what kind of person is Yvette?”
Nell blurted out before thinking, “I thought she’s Old Madam Griffin’s maternal granddaughter?”
