Harvey smiled and said, “Oh, it slipped my mind. We move in different circles, so of course, Young Master Liam wouldn’t know me.”
Although this sounded polite on the surface, it actually carried the mocking implication that Liam was an illegitimate child and thus could not compare to Harvey.
Liam’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Harvey broke out into a smug smile and said softly to Luna, “Luna, let’s go!”
Luna nodded.
The both of them got ready to leave.
Just as they were walking away, Liam suddenly frowned.
He suddenly grabbed a member of his entourage and asked seriously, “He wouldn’t be the same Harvey who was criticized for being a playboy, and ultimately relied on a woman to make his way up?”
The entourage member was clearing stifling a laugh, but managed to put on a deadpan face to warn, “Young Master, one mustn’t believe in rumors so easily.”
“Oh! I didn’t believe in all that. It’s just a general impression I had. Plus, it’s not like I have the time to concern myself with such gossip!”
With that, he dragged Janet with him to the VIP room.
Behind Liam, Harvey’s expression could not darken any further.
His face was fully distorted by his grimace.
Luna glared indignantly at the departing figures of Liam and his entourage, then looked towards Harvey, full of concern.
“Pay him no mind. He’s always been pompous and overbearing! Nothing good ever comes out of his mouth!”
Harvey smiled coldly with a dark glint in his eyes.
Following that, he patted Luna’s arm in a comforting manner, as if he had transformed back into that gentle, refined son of nobility in an instant. “Don’t worry. No matter what the others say about me, it’s enough that you believe me.”
Luna felt relieved. They exchanged a glance, smiled, and walked away, side by side.
Janet followed Liam into the VIP room.
Accompanying them were those three entourage members.
This was a Japanese restaurant. There was a low table in the middle of the room, with soft pads on both sides. The group entered and took their seats according to the hierarchy.
The waiter came in, and Liam airily ordered a few dishes.
Then he waved the waiter away and closed the door. The waiters were not to come in without being called for.
Janet sat beside Liam and raised her eyebrows.
She maintained a tactful silence.
Through their conversation, Janet quickly understood that, amongst the three who had come in with Liam, one of them was called Herman Fernandez. He had a bushy beard and was the one managing the Griffin family’s business deals on the China-Myanmar route.
Herman furrowed his brow, looking rather anxious. “Young Master, I’ve come to you this time because there’s actually something I need your help with!”
Liam’s expression was calm as he motioned for Herman to go on.
“Here’s the situation. A week ago, we got a business offer, saying that someone from Myanmar required a batch of goods. Since they’re all regular customers, I suspected nothing and shipped out a batch according to his request. However, to my surprise, the moment we crossed the border into Myanmar, we were robbed by an unidentified group of people!
“This group of people was familiar with our routes, personnel arrangements, and transaction methods. I’m guessing that they must have known about us beforehand, and were lying in ambush! But I’ve looked everywhere and pored over every detail—I was personally in charge of this deal, and absolutely no information had been leaked.
“That’s not all. The crucial point is that the buyer urgently needs the goods, but I don’t even know who the robbers were. How can I send the goods to him?
“D*mn these strategists! They pretend like we’re all one big family, but when something bad happens, they act as if they don’t know you, saying that you’d have to pay double the penalty fee if the goods aren’t delivered on time. You know as well as I do that business isn’t that great in Myanmar. Where am I supposed to get the money to pay him? Yet I can’t let the boss know about this, or I’ll be out of a job.
“So, we small fry can only come to beg you! Young Master! I hope you’ll show us mercy. Even if it’s just for the sake of our loyalty over the years, please help us!”
