Helpless, Nell sat there and dwelled in her thoughts before bursting out laughing.
It was not as though she had never seen people so eager to please but to come in this strong... Was really...
She lifted her hand to rub her temples without further comment.
It was not long before Helen came out with some soup.
“Sister-in-law, I made this especially for you. This soup is great for replenishing vitality and blood, and good for its restorative quality, perfect for pregnant women.”
Nell took a look at the bowl of soup with an interplay of red and white in front of her. The smell, look, and taste made the soup rather ravishing.
She smiled at Helen. “Thank you, you’ve worked hard.”
“Not at all. I’m only doing my part.”
Though Helen acted chummily, Nell curled her lips and said nothing.
She turned and called a nearby maid over. “Go to the gym to see if the young master has finished with his exercise. Call him to lunch if he’s done.”
“Yes.”
The maid quickly took off but just as she reached a door, she heard a cry.
“Young Master.”
Everyone turned their heads to the source of the noise and saw Gideon appearing at the dining hall entrance in casual wear.
The gym in the villa had an en-suite bathroom. He changed into another white leisure outfit, different from the one he wore when he went out in the morning.
With his clean-cut hair seeping with steam, it was obvious he had just taken a shower.
Nell grinned. “You’re back. Come and have a taste. Helen has been working on it half the day.”
Gideon swept a fleeting glance at the dishes on the table without saying a word.
He faintly nodded and approached her before pulling a chair to take a seat.
For some reason, Helen snuck back into the kitchen.
By the time she resurfaced, she had another bowl of soup in her hands. All smiles, Helen said, “Cousin, I prepared this seafood soup especially for you. It has sea cucumber and caterpillar fungus in it and because Sister-in-law can’t have it, I put it aside. Try it.”
Following a twitch on her eyelid, Nell lifted her eyes to gaze at her.
However, Helen seemed to turn a blind eye toward Nell. Her bright eyes were fixated on Gideon.
Nell faintly sneered.
With a frown, Gideon solemnly retorted, “I don’t like the taste of seafood. Take it away!”
Without glancing at the bowl of soup, he had someone pour him a glass of water instead.
As the smile on Helen’s face stiffened, she quickly turned to throw Nell a look, seeking for help.
Pouting, she mentioned in a grievance, “Sister-in-law, is there somewhere I didn’t do good enough? Is Cousin angry with me? I remember he used to love eating seafood.”
Gideon indeed loved seafood. Helen sure did cater to his taste.
Nell smiled. She did not want to give Helen a hard time out of respect for Gideon’s dearly-departed mother and Old Madam Quinton.
“Since the soup is prepared, you should taste it!”
Gideon looked at her in shock.
“You want me to drink this?”
“Uh huh? What’s wrong?”
“... I’ll drink then.”
Nell, “...”
Helen, “...”
