After the ceremony, it was time for the banquet.
Although the ceremony had been relatively simple, the banquet reflected the sincerity of the Leith family.
Since it was not a grandiose wedding, their attention was invested in other aspects.
The banquet dishes were not only exquisite and beautiful but it also tasted delicious. One look at them would reveal that these were not ordinary dishes.
After some inquiries, they found out that Old Madam had specially hired a state banquet chef.
Of course, state banquets were prestigious events by nature. The fact that such a high-ranking chef would agree to cook for a small ceremony like theirs further reflected the immense effort.
Once the wedding celebrations were over, Old Madam escorted all the guests as they left.
Nell and Gideon’s honeymoon suite was none other than Fengqiao Villa.
After all, this place was surrounded by mountains and rivers, with breathtaking scenery all around them. The winding mountainous road outside effectively formed a natural protective circle around the villa, so it was very secure.
Most importantly, it was near the company.
For Nell and Gideon, the wedding ceremony was just a symbolic ritual, so it did not matter where their honeymoon suite was located. All that mattered was that it was convenient for them.
The two of them walked out together. Matthew Starks was already waiting outside with the car, preparing to send them home.
However, just as they crossed the doorway, they bumped into an unexpected person. “Nelly, we meet again.”
Nell let go of Gideon’s hand. Looking at Gale Shelby standing before them, the joyous expression on her face evaporated in an instant. “Mr. Shelby.”
“I heard that you’re getting married today, so I prepared a special gift. Looks like I arrived late.”
As Gale spoke, he retrieved a gift box from his car.
Nell simply glanced at it and did not betray any expression on her face. “Thank you for the thought.”
Her tone was cold, and the situation turned a little tense.
Today was supposed to be a day of celebration, so no one wanted the situation to turn sour.
Gideon glanced at Matthew meaningfully. The latter quickly moved forward to accept the gift.
Seeing that, Gale did not say anything but when he passed the gift to Matthew, he said to Nell, “I know you don’t want to see me, but you are still my brother’s child. At the end of the day, I should be here for your wedding.”
Nell pursed her lips. “I see.”
“Oh my, isn’t this Mr. Shelby?”
There was a jeer from behind. All of them turned around and saw Old Master Leith walking out with the help of the butler.
Gale Shelby curled his lips. “I haven’t seen you in a while, Old Master Leith. It looks like your body is getting better.”
Old Master Leith smiled at him. “It’s all thanks to the Shelby family, for giving me such a wonderful granddaughter-in-law. Of course, I’m happy. When I’m happy, even my bones feel well.”
Old Master Leith’s words contained a hint of boastfulness, which caused Nell’s mouth to twitch unwittingly.
“Grandfather, it’s windy outside, you should get in the car quickly!”
“No hurry, no hurry. Mr. Shelby, since you’re already here, why don’t you come to my house for a while? We are old acquaintances anyway! Why don’t we take a bite and reminisce about old times?”
Gale smiled and said, “Since Old Master invited me so kindly, it would be disrespectful if I were to turn it down.”
Old Master Leith nodded and glanced at Nell.
His gaze immediately softened.
“Nelly, why don’t you and Deon also come and eat with us before going back?”
Nell turned to look at Gideon. After he nodded in agreement, she acquiesced.
All of them returned to the old residence.
The group sat in the living room. Naturally, they were served tea by some servants.
