Soon, Joel arrived in front of Lucy.
When she saw that the person who came down was him, she was momentarily stunned and blurted, “Why are you here?”
Joel rolled his eyes hard.
“Who else do you think would risk their lives to save you?”
The phrase “risk their lives” already revealed all kinds of dangers and hardships.
Lucy’s eyes reddened as her nose started to sting.
In special circumstances, a person’s heart would be especially fragile. She felt like the strength that she pretended to have collapsed like a ruined city wall in her heart, opening the floodgates.
Tears fell silently and washed away in the rain, making him unable to tell which was the rain and which was her tears.
Joel looked at her silently.
She was usually bright and lively or sharp-tongued and clawed. She rarely showed such a vulnerable and fragile side in front of him.
Someplace deep in his heart moved silently. He held the rope wrapped around his waist and tied her to him.
His other hand held her waist. “Don’t cry. Now isn’t the time for that. If there’s anything you want to say, you can tell me after we’re back up.”
Lucy nodded.
She did not have any strength left anymore. Her entire body weight hung on Joel.
Fortunately, Joel was athletic and his physical strength and movements were agile and powerful. He soon started to climb while carrying Lucy.
The man’s physique was very strong, and the muscles hidden under his shirt were firm and tough. Lucy suddenly found a long-lost sense of reassurance and security.
She looked up at his firm jaw and suddenly asked, “Why are you here?”
Joel climbed up with a cold face. “Can’t I just happen to be passing by?”
Lucy laughed.
He was still the same, getting huffy over everything and acting like a mighty young master.
However, at this time, she did not want to be angry with him anymore.
The cold war between the two that had been going on for a while seemed to have become meaningless at this moment.
“Thank you, Joel.”
She leaned against him and said weakly.
Joel’s spine stiffened.
She had said a lot of things to him and most of it had not been good.
The two often ended up quarreling soon after meeting, so he was not used to her being so gentle and careful.
He steeled his expression and said coldly, “Stop talking. Save your energy.”
Lucy shut her mouth and said nothing more.
After about ten minutes, Joel reached the ground.
Everyone swarmed over.
“Sister Lucy, are you alright?”
“Lucy Katz, how are you?”
Lucy held her sides and looked at the group of people through blurred vision.
Joel untied the rope from her waist and from his own body, then took his coat and wrapped her up.
He turned to Levi and ordered, “What are you just standing there for? Call the car and bring her to the hospital.”
Levi hurriedly agreed.
Then, Joel bent down and picked her up.
Lucy grabbed his collar and opened her mouth, but was interrupted by Joel’s cold voice before she could say anything. “If you don’t want me to throw you down again from here, then just shut up.”
The words were strong and overbearing but filled with deep concern.
Lucy only felt her emotions surge and pain filled her heart.
She nodded with red eyes.
The cramp in her stomach caused her consciousness to begin to blur. In her hazy consciousness, she only felt as if she had been picked up by Joel and carried to the car. Then, a burst of warmth came over her, instantly loosening her body, and she could no longer hold on. She passed out immediately.
