Now, Jada’s loathing for Lucy grew. Yet, Joel had his eyes for the latter, and whatever happened, Lucy was excused.
What did she lack that Lucy did not?
Jada was consumed with hatred and could not wait to tear Lucy apart.
As she thought of this, a wicked expression crossed her face and her lips curled into a malicious smile.
She must make Lucy pay for this!
At the Fragrant Mountain Villa.
Since Joel had been drinking, he could not drive, so he had his chauffeur fetch him home from the bar.
When he got home, he decided to rest for a while as he had too much to drink.
“Young Master.”
At the same time, the butler came to him.
“What is it?”
With furrowed eyebrows, Joel pinched his nose bridge in an attempt to clear his head.
“About the investigation, we have the findings with us now.”
The butler said solemnly.
Joel turned to regard him. His eyes were as dark as obsidian and they exuded a cold glimmer. However, his gaze was so threatening that it resulted in a wave of uneasiness in his listener.
“How is it?”
“We have discovered that Lucy’s accident was caused by someone who tampered with the hanging bridge earlier. That’s why you got into a dangerous situation that day.”
The butler replied respectfully.
At this point, the butler was frightened. The frantic beating of his heart and his steady breathing seemed unusually obvious in this eerily silent atmosphere.
It was because he knew how concerned Joel was about Lucy. When he realized that the accident was actually a set-up, he would probably be furious.
“Did you find out? Who did this?”
Joel stared at the butler fervently.
He badly wanted to know the identity of the culprit. Who was diabolical enough to try to kill Lucy?
When Joel posed this question, the butler was at a loss for words.
He was silent for a moment.
“Why aren’t you speaking?”
Joel’s expression turned to one of alert now.
He stopped fiddling with the amber in his hand and eyed the butler intently.
“This…”
Large beads of perspiration streamed down the butler’s cheeks as he murmured in fear.
“Say something!”
Joel raised his voice. He was also infuriated.
“We haven’t discovered it yet.”
The butler swallowed after answering him as he wondered what would happen to him next.
“What?”
He did not expect his subordinate to fail at pinpointing the culprit’s identity. At this point, he was very impatient and frustrated.
“What’s the status of the task I told you to do previously?”
Come to think of it, that task was no easy job either. He could only order his subordinates to keep investigating and it would take some time before the final truth was revealed.
“That’s already settled.”
“Then, bring in more people to the team and investigate that matter. I won’t blame all of you today, but if there isn’t any concrete result in the future, don’t blame me if I turn nasty.”
