John rubbed his eyebrows, feeling rather annoyed.
In the end, he decided to compromise.
After all, the announcement about their relationship was to protect Chloe, but if this would hurt her self-esteem, he would rather temporarily suppress it and not mention it. Anyway, after the two had been together for a long time, she would understand that he loved her and would never care about her identity.
As for his family, John was not worried because his grandparents would definitely adore Chloe. When it came to his parents, however, he had his own opinion.
When he thought about this, he said, "Well, sit here for a while, and just tell the waiter what you need. I'll be back soon."
Chloe smiled and nodded.
After he left, Chloe sat on the bench alone. The cool night breeze teased her skin, making her feel very comfortable and cozy.
A surprised voice suddenly rang out behind her. "Chloe?"
Chloe looked back and saw Angeline wearing a pastel yellow dress while standing in front of a blooming tree and looking at her in surprise.
Stunned, Chloe stood up from the bench. "Cousin?"
"It really is you. I thought I was wrong."
Angeline walked over and scanned Chloe up and down. At a glance, she could see that the long dress she wore was the masterpiece of the famous stylist, Kris. Coupled with the exquisite makeup and expensive jewelry tonight, she could not help but feel jealous.
Outsiders did not know about the relationship between Kris and John, but as G.K.’s senior perfumer, she had heard of it. She knew that Kris had been born in a wealthy family, but because he was dissatisfied with how he was being controlled at home, coupled with his love for modeling, he had opened a club.
Kris and John, as well as Joel from the Fosters, had played together since childhood, thus they were hardcore brothers. For John to ask him to help style Chloe, it showed that she really was different in his heart.
Chloe, who had gone abroad, had gained a lot of skills, and she could actually conquer a character like Young Master Foster!
Angeline automatically stereotyped Chloe and John’s relationship as one between a mistress and a rich master. Although she was a little contemptuous in her heart, she was calm on the outside.
She smiled slightly as she gestured to Chloe to sit down on the bench. "Chloe, weren’t you abroad? Why are you back?"
Chloe did not want to tell her that her father had asked her to come back for the wedding, so she casually said, "I wasn’t used to being abroad, so I came back."
"Yes, you have never left the country since you were a kid. No wonder you are not used to it." Angeline smiled while her tone of voice was colored with pride.
Chloe detected her superiority but smiled and said nothing.
Although she was her cousin, because the eldest uncle of the Henderson family had gone all out to work hard when he was very young, then starting Tiger Corporation, a fashion-focused group, their status was much higher than that of Chloe's family. They did not keep in touch, and at five years old, Angeline was sent abroad to study and had just come back last year, so they had nothing in common.
Angeline sighed suddenly. "Speaking of which, if it weren't for the incident two years ago, you wouldn't have needed to go abroad."
Chloe's eyes darkened and she lowered her head slightly.
The incident two years ago was a stain that was difficult to erase in her life. Although she repeatedly told herself not to think about it and not to care about it, when she returned to the capital again, she could not help but feel sad when she heard the ugly words from others over and over again.
This was why she felt so nervous tonight.
If a taxi driver could remember the news two years ago and recognize her, what if John’s family recognized her too?
Chloe really would not know how to explain it then or how John would think of her.
Angeline looked at her constantly changing expression and asked in concern, "Chloe, are you okay?"
