The maids were blissfully happy.
With the master and missus both good-looking, surely the young master will be equally adorable!
Nell was unaware of their thoughts.
She was engulfed in her thoughts on how to bring up the matter when Gideon returned later.
A black Rolls Royce drove into the courtyard at half-past six. Gideon was home.
The maids served the dishes on the table.
After another change of outfit, Nell sat obediently at the dinner table waiting for him.
Nell’s primary show of complacency was a surprise to Gideon. He swept a glance at the dishes and caught two dishes that were out of the ordinary.
Nevertheless, he turned a blind eye and said nothing.
Nell greeted him with a smile. “You’re back! Come have dinner!”
Gideon nodded. He took a seat after wiping his hands on a hot towel handed by a maid.
He reached out to the first dish. It was braised bamboo shoots with mushroom cooked by Nell.
Years of taking care of herself had hone Nell’s cooking skills, yet she still questioned her ability against picky eaters like Gideon.
The discussion tonight may go up in smoke if he did not like her cooking.
Gideon picked a piece of bamboo shoot and put it in his mouth.
Nell gawked at his furrowing brow. Her heart was in her throat.
“How is it? Is the taste... okay?”
Gideon gave her a meaningful look. “You made it?”
Erm...
Nell was unsure whether to own up to it. It was great if he liked it but things could backfire if he did not.
She was about to deny when beside her, Aunt Joyce chuckled. “Master, the Missus made the braised bamboo shoots with mushroom and fish in vinegar. She made them especially for you!”
“...”
Aunt Joyce sure had a mouth on her.
Nell awkwardly smiled. “I was just trying it out. Don’t eat it if you don’t like it.”
With that, she extended her arm to move the dishes away.
Before her arms could get to it, she was stopped.
Gideon stared at her. His eyes twinkled a smile.
“When did I say I didn’t like it?”
Nell was taken aback.
He picked another piece of fish in vinegar to his bowl, indulging in every bite. He seemed to be enjoying it.
“...”
Then what was that frown for?
The menu prepared by Aunt Joyce avoided their dislikes. Hence, Nell was still right on the money on her random pick of dishes to cook.
Coincidently, she and Gideon shared a similar taste in food.
They both were not fond of spicy food. Nell was inclined towards sour and sweet things while Gideon had no preference.
Nell was finally at ease for his acceptance of her food.
Holding a smile between his lips, Gideon asked, “You’re eager tonight. Do you have something to ask of me?
Nell let out an embarrassed smile. “I do have something I need to discuss with you.”
“Let’s talk after dinner.”
Gideon went to take a phone call in the study after dinner.
Nell cut up a fruit platter in the kitchen before carrying the serving tray upstairs.
She found him behind his computer desk in what looked like a video conference.
